Claudio Reyna Steps Down As Sporting Director Of Austin FC

Jan 26, 2023 9:26 PM

Claudio Reyna has stepped down as sporting director of Austin FC.

Reyna was involved in a USMNT scandal surrounding Gregg Berhalter.

Sources have told ESPN that Reyna had backed away from some of his duties as sporting director in Austin, though earlier this month the club insisted that nothing had changed with regard to his role. Now Reyna is out as sporting director, though he will contribute in an advisory role.

"I am grateful that Anthony and the organization have given me the opportunity to scale back my role and responsibilities while continuing to contribute to the success of a club that I love," Reyna said in a club statement. "I take great pride in what we have accomplished but am looking forward to a less all-consuming work pace that still permits me to assist ongoing club development."

Jan 26, 2023 2:39 PM

U.S. Soccer Federation sporting director Earnie Stewart is leaving his post to join PSV Eindhoven after the departure of men's national team general manager Brian McBride, a management shakeup that leaves the position of men's coach Gregg Berhalter in uncertainty.

Berhalter and McBride were hired by Stewart.

"While we are sad to see Earnie go, he has helped lay a strong foundation and build a strong sporting staff to ensure that the future of U.S. Soccer is bright," U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement.

"Today, we have a unique opportunity to bring in a new Sporting Director to build on this momentum. We are eager to engage new leaders who will match our ambitions and realize our vision for the future, taking our National Teams to the next level, including competing for a FIFA World Cup on home soil in 2026."

Jan 24, 2023 11:08 AM

Marcelo Bielsa is the preferred candidate to become manager of Everton. The club is in a relegation battle after firing Frank Lampard.

Bielsa has reservations about the state of the club as they have also fired six permanent managers in just under seven years.

Bielsa is not the only candidate under consideration by the Everton board. There has been contact with representatives of former Burnley manager Sean Dyche, who is available, and the West Bromwich Albion coach, Carlos Corberán, who worked with Bielsa at Leeds, is also of interest.

Arsenal Signs Leandro Trossard From Brighton

Jan 20, 2023 3:07 PM

Arsenal have signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton, beating out Tottenham and Chelsea.

Trossard becomes Arsenal's first arrival during the January transfer window.

Arsenal had spent much of the window chasing Mykhailo Mudryk but he joined for Chelsea in a €100 million deal instead from Shakhtar Donetsk.

"We are really happy to have him," Mikel Arteta said. "He's a player we have followed for a while now. The opportunity came -- we had the necessity to have a player in the frontline that is versatile enough to play in different positions.

"He knows the league, he has enough experience here and I think he can have an immediate impact in the team.

"We have to think short-term, but as well medium and long-term as well. He gives us all that.

"He's a very intelligent player. When you look at his career and what he's done in the last few years, he's a player that fits our way of playing for sure. We're happy to have him."
