AC Milan Sign PSG Striker Goncalo Ramos In Club-Record Deal

Jun 27, 2026 8:41 AM

AC Milan have agreed a club-record fee to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos, sources briefed on the deal told The Athletic. The transfer surpasses Milan's previous record outlay for Rafael Leao from Lille in 2019 and represents the most expensive deal in Serie A since Inter Milan signed Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United for €74 million that same year.

Ramos, 25, becomes the first signing of the Ruben Amorim era at Milan. The new head coach knows Ramos personally and identified him as his top target for the No. 9 position. The Portugal international's desire to work under Amorim was a significant factor in accelerating negotiations.

Milan beat out competition from several top European clubs to land Ramos, with owner Gerry Cardinale's relationship with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi playing a pivotal role in securing the deal.

Ramos completed his medical while on international duty with Portugal in Florida, where he is preparing for the country's final group-stage match against Colombia in Miami on Saturday. He has appeared once at the 2026 World Cup, coming off the bench late in Portugal's opening draw with DR Congo on June 17.

The announcement coincides with Milan confirming Massimo Calvelli as their new chief executive officer as part of a broader restructuring of the club's leadership this summer.

Como Agrees To Pay Real Madrid $68M For Nico Paz Rights

Jun 26, 2026 3:13 PM

Real Madrid will receive $68 million (€60 million) from Serie A club Como following a renegotiation of terms surrounding midfielder Nico Paz, who remains a Como player under the revised agreement. The deal replaces the original structure from Paz's €6 million move to the Italian club in August 2024.

The original transfer included a 50 percent sell-on clause and several buy-back options for Madrid, most notably a €9 million clause that would have allowed them to repurchase the 21-year-old this summer. Under the new terms, that clause is removed along with the sell-on percentage. Como will pay Madrid €60 million in exchange for retaining Paz for at least one more season.

Madrid will receive a new buy-back option set at €80 million, active only in the summer of 2027 and available exclusively to the Spanish club. Sources involved in the negotiations said the agreement has been reached but paperwork is not yet finalized.

Madrid sources described the arrangement as a restructuring that benefits all parties. Paz had been open to returning to the Bernabeu, where he spent eight years primarily at academy level, but grew uncertain about playing time in a squad that already features Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and newly arrived Bernardo Silva, who joined on a free transfer from Manchester City this summer.

Paz scored 13 goals and provided eight assists for Como last season, earning recognition as Serie A's top midfielder. Como are set to compete in the Champions League for the first time in their history next season.

Madrid sources acknowledged the new €80 million buy-back figure is below Paz's current market value. The incoming funds could support further recruitment, with midfield reinforcement, a center-back and potentially a striker among Madrid's priorities under new head coach Jose Mourinho.

Newcastle Reject Arsenal's Approach For Bruno Guimaraes

Jun 26, 2026 7:22 AM

Arsenal have submitted a verbal offer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, but the proposal was firmly rejected by the north east club, who insist the Brazilian is not available. The approach, communicated through intermediaries, was worth less than £60 million ($78.5 million).

Guimaraes, 28, is currently with Brazil preparing for a World Cup last-32 match against Japan. Newcastle are adamant they will not entertain offers for their captain, who has made more than 150 Premier League appearances for the club since joining from Lyon in January 2022, scoring 30 times.

The rejection comes amid an already turbulent summer for Newcastle. The club sold winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69.3 million ($93.2 million) and are facing a separate battle to retain midfield partner Sandro Tonali, who has drawn interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, per The Athletic.

The prospect of losing both Guimaraes and Tonali in the same window would be a severe blow to manager Eddie Howe. Alexander Isak also departed over the past 10 months, meaning Newcastle have already seen three key players exit in a short span.

Guimaraes serves as the creative hub of Newcastle's midfield and holds a strong emotional connection with supporters. Club analysts note the team's performance drops sharply in his absence, making any sale at this stage particularly damaging ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Elliot Anderson Join Manchester City From Forest For Up To $170M

Jun 25, 2026 5:18 PM

Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a transfer worth up to $170 million, with the 23-year-old cleared to undergo a medical in New York on Friday. Personal terms remain to be finalized.

The agreement follows a third offer from City, who pushed to close a gap in valuations between the clubs. Forest had sought a fixed fee exceeding the £125 million ($164.9 million) British record Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. City's previous verbal offer stood at £106 million ($139.8 million) up front, with add-ons potentially taking the total above £120 million ($158.3 million).

Anderson is currently in the United States with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He has started both of England's group-stage fixtures against Croatia and Ghana and is expected to do so again against Panama on Saturday.

The Newcastle-born midfielder joined Forest in 2023 in a deal valued at £35 million ($46.1 million). He has since made 92 appearances for the club, featuring in every Premier League match during the 2025-26 season and contributing four goals and four assists. Anderson made his England debut in September.

City view Anderson as the long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva. He ranked second among Premier League central and defensive midfielders in take-ons per 90 minutes last season and accounted for 14 percent of Forest's total league touches, the highest share of any player at the club.

Forest have identified Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, 20, as a potential replacement, The Athletic reported earlier this week.

FC Cincinnati Lose Out On Neymar After Talks Stall, Still Open To MLS

Jun 25, 2026 3:19 PM

Neymar has withdrawn from discussions with FC Cincinnati after growing frustrated with the pace of a potential move, sources briefed on the situation told The Athletic. Cincinnati never submitted a formal offer to the Brazilian star.

Neymar had been willing to join Cincinnati if the financial terms could be agreed upon. Sporting director Chris Albright and president Jeff Berding traveled to Brazil in April to meet with Neymar and his father.

Despite the breakdown with Cincinnati, Neymar remains open to joining another MLS club if the right situation presents itself, sources said.

The 34-year-old is currently contracted with his boyhood club Santos through the end of the year, recording six goals and four assists across 15 appearances this season. He made his first World Cup appearance for Brazil this summer after returning from injury, featuring in a 3-0 group-stage victory over Scotland. Brazil topped Group C with two wins and a draw.

MLS clubs have pursued global stars aggressively in recent years, fueled by the commercial success of Lionel Messi and an approaching media rights negotiation. The league's current deal with Apple expires after the 2028-29 season. Recent arrivals include Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris at LAFC, Thomas Muller at Vancouver and Antoine Griezmann at Orlando City. Inter Miami is set to sign Casemiro, while the Chicago Fire are pursuing Robert Lewandowski.

Neymar, Brazil's all-time leading scorer, has won one Champions League title, two La Liga titles and five Ligue 1 titles across stints at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal.

AC Milan Rebuffs NYCFC Interest In Christian Pulisic

Jun 24, 2026 7:58 PM

New York City FC has expressed interest in United States men's national team forward Christian Pulisic, but AC Milan has firmly stated the 27-year-old is not available, sources briefed on the situation told The Athletic. Gazzetta Dello Sport first reported NYCFC's interest.

Sources add that NYCFC is not the only MLS club that would pursue Pulisic if Milan's position changed. For now, Pulisic remains focused entirely on the World Cup with the USMNT and is on track to return from a calf injury against Turkey on Thursday.

Pulisic is contracted through next summer, though Milan holds an option to extend his deal an additional 12 months, keeping him under club control through the summer of 2028.

The Italian club is navigating a significant organizational overhaul. Milan recently replaced head coach Massimiliano Allegri with Ruben Amorim following the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League. Sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada also departed at the end of the domestic season.

Pulisic has been among Milan's most productive players since joining from Chelsea in 2023. He finished 2025-26 with eight goals and six assists across 1,611 Serie A minutes, though his form declined in the second half of the season after going scoreless following December.

The American winger has recorded 33 goals across 87 caps for the USMNT.

NYCFC is preparing to move into a new stadium in Queens set to open in the summer of 2027. The club previously featured European stars David Villa, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo before moving away from that approach in recent years.

Julian Alvarez Requests Transfer From Atletico Amid Barca Interest

Jun 22, 2026 7:09 PM

Argentina striker Julian Alvarez has publicly confirmed he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, making the admission following his country's 2-0 victory over Austria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday.

"I can't hide it," said Alvarez. "I try to be an honest person. I spoke with Atletico de Madrid, and I think a transfer is the best option. I want to fulfill my dream."

Barcelona remain the frontrunner to acquire Alvarez. The Catalan club are preparing a revised formal offer in the region of €100 million ($116 million) after initial talks with Atletico last month. Alvarez is Barcelona's top transfer priority this summer.

Real Madrid submitted a €150 million ($171.4 million) bid for Alvarez earlier this month, which Atletico rejected. Club sources said at the time they did not view the offer as genuine. Madrid are not expected to return with an improved proposal.

Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City for a fee of up to €95 million in 2024, signing a six-year contract through 2030. He has scored 49 goals across 106 appearances for the Spanish club, including 20 in 2025-26.

Barcelona's pursuit intensified following the departure of Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer. Head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco have tracked Alvarez for the past year. Atletico sources indicate the club is resistant to a major sale unless presented with an exceptional offer.

Alvarez has entered each of Argentina's first two World Cup fixtures as a substitute. The reigning champions face Jordan on June 28 in their final group-stage match.

Real Madrid Denies Reports Linking Club To $229M Michael Olise Offer

Jun 20, 2026 5:37 PM

Real Madrid has denied reports connecting the club to Bayern Munich and France winger Michael Olise, dismissing speculation that it was preparing a bid worth more than $229 million.

The Spanish club said in a statement released Saturday that it has had no "direct or indirect contact" with the 24-year-old, his representatives or anyone in his circle.

"Real Madrid also wishes to highlight the excellent institutional relationship it maintains with Bayern Munich," the club said. "[Real Madrid] regrets the dissemination of speculations that do not correspond to reality." The statement added that any interest in a player from another club must first be addressed between the two clubs directly.

Olise scored 22 goals and added 31 assists for Bayern across all competitions in 2025-26 and remains a key figure in France's World Cup squad. He set up Kylian Mbappe's opening goal in France's 3-1 win over Senegal in the team's first group match.

Real Madrid, now managed by Jose Mourinho, has already added Bernardo Silva on a free transfer this summer along with full-back Marc Cucurella in a $52 million deal from Chelsea. The club is also set to sign defender Ibrahima Konate once his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of this month.

Real Madrid did have a $172 million offer for striker Julian Alvarez rejected by city rival Atletico Madrid. That bid followed a pledge from club president Florentino Perez to pursue a $172 million "galactico" signing if reelected. Perez won 65 percent of the vote earlier this month to extend his presidency through 2030, having held the role since 2009.

Liverpool Boost Yan Diomande Transfer Offer To $115M

Jun 18, 2026 9:31 PM

Liverpool have stepped up their efforts to sign RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, now willing to offer close to €100 million for the Ivory Coast international, according to The Athletic.

The revised proposal marks an increase from Liverpool's previous offer during talks with the Bundesliga club over a potential transfer fee.

Paris Saint-Germain also remain interested in the 19-year-old but have not yet submitted a formal bid to Leipzig. The French club is waiting to see which destination Diomande prefers before proceeding.

Sources close to the talks indicate PSG currently trails Liverpool when it comes to personal terms offered to the player. As a result, Liverpool appear to hold the advantage in negotiations, though the Reds are reportedly exploring backup options should the deal fall through.

Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh, FC Koln's Said El Mala and Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo are reportedly among the alternatives under consideration.

Leipzig has shown no interest in selling Diomande and instead hopes to extend his contract. Reports suggest it would take an offer above €130 million to change the club's stance.

Diomande was nearly ever-present for Leipzig this season, missing just one Bundesliga match due to international duty. He finished the campaign with 12 goals and nine assists in 33 league appearances as Leipzig secured third place and Champions League qualification.

The forward is currently representing Ivory Coast at the World Cup and started in the team's tournament opener, a 1-0 victory over Ecuador on Sunday. Diomande was widely viewed as the most influential player on the pitch in that match, leading his side in touches, take-ons and chances created.

Diomande was playing for DME Sports Academy in Florida roughly 18 months ago before a brief stint at Leganes preceded his €20 million move to Leipzig last year as he's had an incredibly meteoric rise.

Liverpool Sign Winger Victor Munoz From Osasuna For $46M

Jun 17, 2026 7:25 PM

Liverpool have triggered the €40 million ($46m) release clause of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, securing the 22-year-old Spain international as the club's first signing under new head coach Andoni Iraola, The Athletic reported.

Sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group CEO of football Michael Edwards led the deal, beating out Newcastle United for Munoz's signature. He will sign a six-year contract at Anfield.

The transfer addresses a priority need created by Mohamed Salah's departure at the end of last season. Hugo Ekitike is set to miss the start of the campaign with an Achilles injury, while Federico Chiesa is expected to leave the club this summer.

Munoz is currently with Spain's World Cup squad in Atlanta, where Liverpool medical personnel are present at the camp. He has not featured in Spain's two warm-up matches or their opening group stage fixture against Cape Verde.

Born in Catalonia, Munoz came through Barcelona's La Masia academy before joining Real Madrid at 18. He made four first-team appearances for Madrid, including two at last summer's Club World Cup, before moving to Osasuna last summer for €5 million. Real Madrid retained a 50 percent sell-on clause in that deal.

Munoz posted seven goals across 36 appearances for Osasuna last season, operating on the left side of a 4-2-3-1 system. Known for his pace and directness, he ranks in the 98th percentile among wide players across Europe's top five leagues for take-ons per 100 touches, according to analytics data from The Athletic.

He made his Spain senior debut in March, scoring in a friendly victory over Serbia.
