Bayern Munich Target Liverpool Teenager Rio Ngumoha In Surprise Move

Jun 5, 2026 12:26 PM

Bayern Munich are exploring a move for Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, 17, as the German champions look to reinforce the left side of their attack. The club has yet to make formal contact with Liverpool.

Head coach Vincent Kompany and the Bayern board are driving interest in Ngumoha. Liverpool, however, regard the teenager as untouchable and have no intention of selling. Transfmarkt has a €30 million valuation for Ngumoha.

Ngumoha signed his first professional contract in September, keeping him at Anfield through June 2028. He made 29 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26, contributing two goals and one assist.

His development was a key reason Liverpool chose not to sign a direct replacement after Luis Diaz departed for Bayern last summer. The club now views Ngumoha as a core piece of its rebuilding efforts under incoming head coach Andoni Iraola.

The young winger is currently training with England's senior squad in Florida ahead of the World Cup, though he will not be included in the tournament roster.

Bayern's pursuit reflects a broader need to plan for the future at left wing. Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry are both in their 30s, and Diaz will turn 29 soon. The club previously pursued Anthony Gordon and held interest in Said El Mala of Koln.

Bayern point to Michael Olise's rapid rise under Kompany as evidence of their ability to develop wide forwards. Liverpool, meanwhile, are focused on adding width this summer, with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande among the candidates being tracked.

Florentino Perez Promises Madrid Record Transfer If Re-Elected

Jun 5, 2026 11:50 AM

Amid his first election campaign since 2006, Florentino Perez has promised he would bid at least €150 million for a mystery player if he voted back as president of Real Madrid.

Perez's challenger, Enrique Riquelme, has praised he will sign both Erling Haaland and Rodri from Manchester City if he wins election.

“On Tuesday, I’ll make an offer to a big Champions League club for a player which would be the biggest transfer in all Real Madrid’s history, at least €150m,” Perez said during a television appearance.

During his campaign, Perez has touted the seven Champions League trophies Real Madrid has won during his two terms.

Perez hired Jose Mourinho as head coach this offseason in an effort to end their streak of two trophy-less seasons.

West Ham Valuing Mateus Fernandes At $108M

Jun 4, 2026 3:26 PM

Relegated West Ham United plan to seek $108 million for midfielder Mateus Fernandes, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain among the clubs pursuing the 21-year-old Portugal international. West Ham have yet to receive a formal approach for the player.

The East London club need to generate approximately $203 million this summer following their Premier League relegation. Fernandes, signed for $51 million from Southampton last summer, represents one of their most valuable assets. Southampton retained a 15 percent sell-on clause in the deal.

Manchester United have held preliminary discussions over a potential fee and wages, though they recently agreed a separate deal to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Ederson for up to $61 million. United head coach Michael Carrick is seeking a midfield partner for Kobbie Mainoo, with Manuel Ugarte's future at the club uncertain.

Fernandes contributed five goals and four assists across 40 appearances last season despite West Ham's relegation. He was a leading contender for the club's player of the year award.

The Portuguese midfielder has cited his compatriot Bruno Fernandes as his primary role model, with the pair sharing roots in Sporting Club's academy in Lisbon.

"The biggest one right now is Bruno Fernandes because of the player he is," said Mateus Fernandes. "Back when I was at Sporting, I looked up to him and tried to learn from him. He plays in the same league as me, he has a lot of experience with the national team and in the Premier League. I try to watch him a lot. Without a doubt, he stands out."

Fernandes holds a contract at West Ham through 2030 and has no release clause. Despite his strong club form, he was not selected for Portugal's World Cup squad.

Yan Diomande Hints At PSG Preference As Liverpool Circle $150M Winger

Jun 4, 2026 8:13 AM

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has publicly expressed admiration for Paris Saint-Germain while Liverpool remain among clubs tracking the 19-year-old, sources told ESPN. Leipzig have set an opening asking price of $150 million for the Bundesliga standout.

Diomande enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign in Germany, recording 12 goals and nine assists to claim the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.

Speaking to French media, Diomande made clear his affection for the Champions League holders.

"Paris Saint-Germain is a team I've loved since I was little," said Diomande. "I think my father was a PSG supporter. It's a team I admire as a football fan.

"But I'm not thinking about the future. I'm staying focused on the World Cup and then we'll see what happens. They'll sort things out between clubs and we'll see what happens next.

"I'm under contract with Leipzig and I love playing here."

In a separate interview with Telefoot on TF1, Diomande was more direct about his feelings toward a potential move to France.

"Yeah, it would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs," said Diomande. "It's always a pleasure to come here because, already the language, with French, adapting won't be difficult, so why not? But then again, I'm an RB Leipzig player, so there you go."

The Ivory Coast international is contracted at Leipzig through 2030 and will feature as a key player for his nation at the upcoming World Cup. PSG, who claimed back-to-back Champions League titles, have also been linked with the versatile winger.

City Explore Lawsuit Over Riquelme's Erling Haaland Transfer Promise

Jun 4, 2026 7:54 AM

Manchester City are exploring legal action against Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme after he publicly claimed he would sign striker Erling Haaland if elected club president. City have called the statements false and unauthorized.

Riquelme, a 37-year-old renewable energy entrepreneur, appeared on Spanish television program El Hormiguero Wednesday, presenting a Madrid jersey bearing Haaland's name and number while challenging incumbent president Florentino Perez.

"Haaland has a release clause and wants to join Real Madrid," said Riquelme.

Riquelme added that he would reimburse membership fees for all 100,000 Real Madrid members next season if he failed to deliver the Norwegian forward, who signed a new contract in January keeping him at City through 2034.

Haaland's representatives swiftly dismissed the claims as entertaining but false. City then issued a formal response.

"The stories which have emerged from Spain regarding the future of Erling Haaland are untrue," said a club spokesperson. "There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause to enable it.

"We are considering legal action for the use of our player image in this context."

Riquelme also pledged to sign City midfielder Rodri, whose contract at the Etihad Stadium expires at the end of next season. City have consistently maintained they will not sell the Spain international this summer.

Perez, 79, has served as Madrid president since 2000 and remains the strong favorite for re-election. On Wednesday, he confirmed Jose Mourinho as his managerial choice, along with free agent defender Ibrahima Konate and Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries as anticipated arrivals.

Forest Reject City Offer For Elliot Anderson Amid $161M Valuation

Jun 4, 2026 7:51 AM

Nottingham Forest has rejected an opening offer from Manchester City for midfielder Elliot Anderson, sources told ESPN. City view the 23-year-old as their top summer transfer priority and are expected to submit a revised bid.

The two clubs hold significantly different valuations of the England international. Forest are seeking approximately $161 million for Anderson, while City's initial offer was closer to $107 million.

Manchester United have also registered interest in Anderson, though Forest's asking price presents a considerable obstacle for any potential suitor.

City executives do not expect a quick resolution, with Anderson currently on international duty with England at their World Cup training base in Florida.

Beyond the Anderson pursuit, City are scouting right-backs and right wingers ahead of the summer window. The club seeks a young right-back to compete with Matheus Nunes, 27, who held the starting position last season. City sources stress the club remains satisfied with Nunes and has no plans to move him on.

The future of 21-year-old Rico Lewis remains uncertain following a difficult season at the Etihad Stadium. Lewis, who attracted interest from Forest last summer, is weighing his options regarding a potential departure.

Separately, City are in ongoing discussions with Chelsea over compensation before officially naming Enzo Maresca as their new manager. Maresca departed Stamford Bridge in January and has been selected to succeed Pep Guardiola, but the formal announcement has been delayed by unresolved financial negotiations between the two clubs.

Ederson Joins Manchester United From Atalanta On $47M Deal

Jun 2, 2026 7:45 PM

Manchester United have agreed a £35 million ($47 million) deal with Atalanta for Brazil midfielder Ederson, with the 26-year-old set to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford with an option to extend by a further 12 months.

The transfer remains subject to a medical, with completion expected in early July ahead of United's pre-season return. An additional £3.9 million in performance-related payments is also included in the agreement.

Ederson becomes the club's first signing since Michael Carrick was appointed permanent head coach last month and is the first of what could be up to three central midfield additions this summer. United have prioritized the position following the impending departure of compatriot Casemiro, 34, whose contract expires at the end of the month.

The Brazilian has proved adaptable across multiple midfield roles during his time at Atalanta, scoring 16 goals in 180 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A club. He holds three senior international caps and was included in Brazil's expanded 55-man World Cup squad before missing Carlo Ancelotti's final selection.

United are also pursuing West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, though the relegated London club are seeking a substantial profit on the Portugal midfielder who cost them in excess of £40 million when he arrived from Southampton last summer. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson is another target, though the England midfielder is said to prefer a move to Manchester City.

Beyond midfield, United are exploring a left-sided addition, with Newcastle's Lewis Hall among those on their radar, as well as striking support for Benjamin Sesko. The club's goalkeeping situation also remains unresolved. Former first choice Andre Onana has been told he can seek a new club, while 22-year-old Czech keeper Radek Vitek, who earned all player of the year honors during a loan spell at Bristol City, has indicated he wants regular playing time rather than a backup role.

The recruitment drive is being shaped by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with former Mercedes Formula One executive Michael Sansoni playing a prominent role in target identification alongside director of football Jason Wilcox.

Real Madrid Pursuing Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries

Jun 2, 2026 12:29 PM

Real Madrid are actively pursuing free agent center-back Ibrahima Konate and Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer, with both moves expected to advance following Sunday's club presidential election, sources told The Athletic.

Konate, 27, will leave Liverpool at no cost when his contract expires June 30. Liverpool confirmed his departure after the two sides were unable to reach an agreement despite negotiations dating back to October 2024. Konate has since joined the France squad for the World Cup.

Madrid had previously expressed to Liverpool late last year that they were no longer interested in the Frenchman before reigniting their pursuit as the club seeks defensive reinforcements. The need has grown more pressing with David Alaba departing on a free transfer and Eder Militao continuing to deal with fitness concerns.

Dumfries, 30, is Madrid's primary target at right-back. The club has held direct talks with the Netherlands international, who carries a €20 million ($29.1 million) release clause in his Inter Milan contract. Sources familiar with the discussions, speaking anonymously, said personal terms are not expected to present an obstacle.

One source said Madrid intend to finalize the Dumfries deal once incumbent president Florentino Perez, who is widely expected to win, is confirmed as the election's outcome. Perez, 79, faces his first presidential challenge since 2004 from renewable energy entrepreneur Enrique Riquelme, 37, with around 100,000 club members eligible to vote on June 7.

Incoming head coach Jose Mourinho, who has signed a three-year contract to return for a second spell at the club, has been briefed on both pursuits. In discussions with Madrid ahead of his appointment, Mourinho requested a backup right-back, a left-back to compete with Alvaro Carreras, a dominant center-back, and a creative midfielder.

With captain Dani Carvajal set to leave when his contract expires at the end of June, Trent Alexander-Arnold would otherwise remain Madrid's only senior recognized right-back. Other right-back candidates considered by the club include Tottenham's Pedro Porro and Sporting CP's Ivan Fresneda, though significant obstacles exist in both cases.

Aston Villa Facing Summer Battle To Retain Morgan Rogers

Jun 2, 2026 7:30 AM

Multiple sources have told The Athletic that Morgan Rogers is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer, though senior club sources insist the Birmingham club intends to keep the 23-year-old and holds considerable leverage with five years remaining on his contract.

Villa's financial situation complicates matters. The club must raise funds through player sales to comply with financial regulations, and Rogers, who carries an €80 million TransferMarkt valuation, represents the club's most valuable asset. Several of the Premier League and Europe's top clubs have already made their interest known.

Rogers posted 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions last season operating primarily as a number 10, though he is capable of playing as a winger, striker, or attacking midfielder.

Any potential transfer fee would be reduced by a sell-on clause Middlesbrough inserted when they sold Rogers to Villa in January 2024. The initial deal was worth £7 million ($9.4 million) with up to £8 million ($10.7 million) in add-ons, but Middlesbrough retained a 20 percent sell-on clause, entitling them to a portion of any future profit Villa makes on the player.

Villa's preference would be to raise the necessary funds by selling other players, preserving Rogers in their squad. Whether that proves achievable given the level of outside interest remains to be seen.

Rodri Defers Questions On Real Madrid Links Until After World Cup

Jun 1, 2026 3:42 PM

Manchester City midfielder Rodri says he will address his club future only after this summer's World Cup, declining to comment on reported interest from Real Madrid following his arrival at Spain's pre-tournament training camp in Las Rozas on Saturday.

The Ballon d'Or winner, whose City contract runs through 2027, was named as a transfer target by Enrique Riquelme, a candidate challenging Florentino Perez in this weekend's Real Madrid presidential election.

"We're here to talk about the World Cup," Rodri told journalists at Spain's media day Monday. "In terms of my future, I'll wait until the World Cup is over."

Rodri acknowledged the speculation but said it would not distract him from his responsibilities as Spain captain.

"It's normal, it's a part of football, names of players being linked to particular clubs," he said. "I'm focused, I'm captain of the national team. My responsibility is to accept it. I'm a leader in the group, my only job is to help Spain win this World Cup... I won't waste time on all that, and after the World Cup, we'll see."

Riquelme told ESPN last week that Rodri, who came up through Villarreal and Atletico Madrid before joining City in 2019, is "the kind of player who has to play for Real Madrid." Madrid are seeking reinforcements after back-to-back seasons without a major trophy.

Rodri made 21 Premier League appearances in 2025-26 after working his way back from a cruciate ligament tear suffered in September 2024. He said he arrives at the World Cup in strong physical condition.

"I'm very happy and excited," he said. "I was just joking that it's the first time I've arrived fresh, and without so many games. I've been able to overcome everything. I'm coming in with less rhythm, but fewer matches under my belt."
