Arsenal have submitted a verbal offer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, but the proposal was firmly rejected by the north east club, who insist the Brazilian is not available. The approach, communicated through intermediaries, was worth less than £60 million ($78.5 million).

Guimaraes, 28, is currently with Brazil preparing for a World Cup last-32 match against Japan. Newcastle are adamant they will not entertain offers for their captain, who has made more than 150 Premier League appearances for the club since joining from Lyon in January 2022, scoring 30 times.

The rejection comes amid an already turbulent summer for Newcastle. The club sold winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69.3 million ($93.2 million) and are facing a separate battle to retain midfield partner Sandro Tonali, who has drawn interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, per The Athletic.

The prospect of losing both Guimaraes and Tonali in the same window would be a severe blow to manager Eddie Howe. Alexander Isak also departed over the past 10 months, meaning Newcastle have already seen three key players exit in a short span.

Guimaraes serves as the creative hub of Newcastle's midfield and holds a strong emotional connection with supporters. Club analysts note the team's performance drops sharply in his absence, making any sale at this stage particularly damaging ahead of the 2026-27 season.
