Barcelona Players Willing To Cut Salaries To Sign Neymar

Oct 31, 2019 8:23 PM

Gerard Pique said that Barcelona players were interested in restructuring their contracts if it meant the club could sign Neymar last summer.

"What we proposed to [Josep Maria] Bartomeu was a touching up of our contracts. Because we knew it was a FFP thing. The relationship with the president has always been very good and we told him that we could change things so that Ney could come," said Pique.

Pique added that he warned Neymar about moving to PSG.

"We already told him that he was going to a gold prison. He knows the door is open," said Pique.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Marcus Rashford Free Kick Was Ronaldo-esque

Oct 31, 2019 3:02 PM

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that Marcus Rashford's free kick against Chelsea reminded him of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"It's Cristiano-like, isn't it? The boy has got nerves of steel, he takes the penalty no problem. Then he steps up and hits the ball like he does, no problem, and wins us the game. He always scores great goals, Marcus. He practises and today he got his reward," said Solskjaer after the match.

Frank Lampard was equally impressed with Rashford's goal.

"No team can stop that," said Lampard following the 2-1 loss.

Trent Alexander-Arnold Dreams Of Being Liverpool Captain

Oct 31, 2019 1:01 PM

Trent Alexander-Arnold laid out his ambitions to one day captain Liverpool.

"I am not shy in saying that [being captain] is a dream for me. Whether it comes true or not is not up to me; I don't pick who is captain. But that is something I would love to do one day. Captaining Liverpool is something I have always dreamed of and it is something that motivates me," said the 21-year-old fullback.

Alexander-Arnold explained how he was discovered by Liverpool, adding that he felt he was destined to be at the club.

Alexander-Arnold is one short of making 100 appearances for the club.

"It was a normal day at school coming up to half term and there was a summer camp going on at the [Liverpool] academy," he said. "They sent six or seven invites to my school. It was about encouraging young players to play football ... I went in the morning and it was within the first hours, one of the members of staff went over to my mum and said: 'Can you start bringing him two or three times a week?'"

Pep Guardiola: Xavi Will Manage Barcelona One Day

Oct 30, 2019 2:50 PM

Pep Guardiola praised the managerial ability of both Xavi and Xabi Alonso, adding that he hopes to see Xavi take over at Barcelona one day.

"Xavi was already a manager when he played. His eyes sparkled watching football. He will be a manager for sure. There are people who play and you would never say they will be managers. This is not the case. Xavi could be a manager wherever he likes, not just at Barcelona. You have to give him time. Sooner or later, he will manage Barcelona," said Guardiola.

Guardiola also had high praise for Maurizio Sarri and Thomas Tuchel.

"Sarri's Napoli, stopping them in the Champions League was torture. I also like Tuchel, when you play against him and you see his plans, you think, 'the bastard!', everything his teams are doing is thought out. He always looks to run rings around you."

Valladolid Sporting Director: Messi Is A Smallpox With No Vaccine

Oct 30, 2019 1:56 PM

Real Valladolid sporting director David Espinar described Messi as a virus following Barcelona's 5-1 win against his club.

Espinar also described the mutual respect between Messi and Ronaldo. Ronaldo is the majority owner of Valladolid.

"Messi is a smallpox, but there is no vaccine. He is an admirer of Ronaldo Nazario, and our president has already said that he admires him. It's a mutual feeling, and Ronaldo will have been as astonishing as everyone tonight but feeling a little bitter that Messi has done this against us," said Espinar.
