Lionel Messi Uncertain If He'll Be Ready For Clasico

Sep 29, 2015 4:51 PM

Lionel Messi does not know if he will return from his current knee injury in time to play for Barcelona in the Clasico at Real Madrid on Nov. 21, his brother Rodrigo has told Spanish radio.

Messi tore a ligament in his left knee early this past weekend.

"[Messi] is an excellent professional and knows what he has to do," Rodrigo Messi said. "Obviously there is pressure in all aspects, but he is just thinking about his recovery. Nothing else. He really does not know [when he will return]. Nobody knows yet. His body will recover in its own time. There is no rush. Obviously he wants to play as quickly as possible, but he will only play when he is ready."

Messi will miss several World Cup qualifiers for Argentina in addition to Barcelona's normal schedule.

Luke Shaw Out At Least Six Months With Double Fracture In Right Leg

Sep 15, 2015 7:57 PM

Luke Shaw suffered a horrific double fracture of his right leg in Manchester United's Champions League loss at PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.

Shaw will be out at least six months.

The injury was caused by a reckless tackle from Héctor Moreno in the 15th minute.

Shaw had nine minutes of treatment on the field and needed oxygen before being taken to the hospital.

Louis Van Gaal said: “He has a double leg fracture and is in hospital. He will be transferred tomorrow or maybe a day later and then operated on in Manchester. It is awful – a boy who comes to Manchester United at 18, has it very difficult and then plays fantastically and then this happens. When it was in the dressing room he had an oxygen mask on. He was crying.

“I am not a doctor but when you have a double fracture it is six months and he will not play in the group phase. I hope he can play again this season.”

Franck Ribery Close To Return From Ankle Injury

Sep 15, 2015 11:52 AM

Franck Ribery could soon return for the first time since March.

Ribery's rehab progress from an ankle injury has been slower than expected.

“It is now mid-September and I think that will be the case, that during 2015 he will be whirling again,” Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

“What was important is to have the right diagnosis and treatment. I am not that pessimistic and I think in the not too distant future he will come back. That of course does not mean this week or next week,” Rummenigge said. “But he will come back. I am fully convinced of that and that is the key thing.”
