David Alaba Out For Season With Torn ACL

Dec 18, 2023 2:36 PM

Real Madrid lost David Alaba to a torn ACL during Sunday's win over Villarreal.

Carlo Ancelotti said he has "never seen three cruciate ligament injuries in four months" after Alaba joined Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao.

"After tests carried out on our player David Alaba, he's been diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee," Madrid confirmed in a statement. "The player will undergo surgery in the next few days."

"I haven't spoken to [Alaba]," Ancelotti said in his postmatch news conference. "It's a shame, obviously. We're very sad to lose another player. I've never seen three cruciate ligament injuries in four months. It's incredible. But there's nothing we can do.

"What the team has to do is what it's done with all the injuries we've had, which is to hang on. We've done more than people thought we would. With all our problems, this team is battling, fighting, with extraordinary commitment.

"It's the only way we can replace all the important players who've suffered injuries. We'll see in the next few days if we can do something [in January]."

Jude Bellingham May Eventually Need Shoulder Surgery

Dec 8, 2023 12:07 PM

Carlos Ancelotti has said there are no plans for Jude Bellingham to undergo surgery on his dislocated shoulder.

Bellingham dislocated his shoulder in Madrid's LaLiga match with Rayo Vallecano on Nov. 5. Bellingham missed two matches, but then returned to the club.

Ancelotti admitted that he's still not fully fit.

"Bellingham has been training individually," Ancelotti said. "He's been recovering after the ankle knock he picked up against Napoli.

"He has to look after his shoulder. He has to do specific work to strengthen it. But he hasn't had any problems playing, and in that sense, he'll improve with each day that passes."
