Klopp: Daniel Sturridge Needs To Cope With Pain

Nov 27, 2015 12:53 PM

Daniel Sturridge has had a run of injuries and Jurgen Klopp believes he will need to overcome the pain barrier.

Sturridge has made just 10 Premier League starts since the beginning of last season.

"I understand why everybody's waiting," Klopp said. "Daniel has very often been injured in the last few months and years.

"If it wasn't someone with the quality of Daniel, no one would think about it. You have to learn to adapt to the new intensity of training. You have to learn what is serious pain and what is only pain.

"Everybody wants him back on the pitch but we all have to learn. The training was intensive, as it should have been. We've had to make an assessment [of the injury]. It's not that serious but it's not possible to train as before. That's completely normal after a long injury.

"Last season he had surgery, and had a really long period out. He has only played three games since, but we have to stay patient. I am sorry for you, sorry for me and sorry for him. But that's the situation."

Francis Coquelin Out At Least Two Months With Knee Injury

Nov 23, 2015 11:56 AM

Francis Coquelin will miss at least two months with a knee injury.

Arsene Wenger suggested Mathieu Flamini or Calum Chambers could fill in for Coquelin as Arsenal's defensive midfielder.

“I’m always cautious. It will be at least two months but I don’t want to speculate more than that,” said Wenger when asked about Coquelin. “I must say we have been hit very hard in November. We have lost a few players.”

Arsenal could use the January transfer window to bring in a replacement.

“It is of course a disappointment to lose him in the longer term but we have in the squad the players who can compensate. We have lost a player of quality for a while but we know that can happen,” he added.

“I will give myself time, we have players who play in this position like Mathieu Flamini and players who can play there like Calum Chambers.

“Sometimes this is a good opportunity for other players to turn up and do the job. I will do what is needed in January, knowing as well it is not an ideal transfer market.”

Lionel Messi Will Be Match-Time Decision For Clasico

Nov 20, 2015 10:06 PM

Lionel Messi will be a match-time decision for Saturday's Clasico against Real Madrid.

After injuring a ligament in his knee in late September, Messi has not played but returned to training during the most recent international break.

Luis Enrique said he would base his final decision on how Messi was feeling just before the match begins.

"Whether Messi plays or not -- I prefer him to play, of course -- the great news is that he is fit again," Luis Enrique said on Friday. "When will I make the decision about Messi starting or not? I'll talk today with him, tomorrow, and it'll be decided an hour before the game.

"We know he's not going to be 100 percent fit, coming back from injury, depends how he feels, but it's great for us he's back.

"Only the player can only tell you how he is feeling."

Thiago Alcantara Out 3-4 Weeks With Knee Injury

Nov 17, 2015 12:23 PM

Thiago Alcantara has been ruled out for three to four weeks by Bayern Munich with a knee injury.

Thiago has suffered a succession of knee problems in recent seasons, said on Monday that he will be out "just for a few weeks," and Bayern confirmed the news on Tuesday.

"Following a thorough examination, the Bayern Munich team doctors detected capsule damage in [Thiago's] right knee," a club statement read.

"The injury is not connected to Thiago's prolonged problems in the past. All the same, the midfielder is set for a three- to four-week layoff."
