Silva Given All Clear Following Injuries To Cheekbone, Collarbone

Apr 19, 2015 5:12 PM

David Silva was carted off the field in Manchester City's 2-0 win on Sunday against West Ham with injuries to his cheekbone and collarbone.

Silva was caught by the flailing arm of Cheikhou Kouyaté on 66 minutes and required eight minutes of treatment. The Spaniard was carried off on a stretcher and needed an oxygen mask before going for X-rays. He later tweeted that he had already been given the all clear to return home.

Manuel Pellegrini offered no complaints about the challenge of Kouyaté. “I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player. The referee was so near and he decided it was unintentional. Nothing more happens,” he said.

The West Ham manager, Sam Allardyce, concurred. “It was accidental. It was innocuous. I didn’t think it was a foul. I just had a look now. Everybody thinks it is a more serious attack from Cheikhou than it was. It wasn’t deliberate at all.”

Gareth Bale, Luka Modric Suffer Leg Injuries

Apr 18, 2015 5:37 PM

Gareth Bale and Luka Modric picked up injuries in Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Malaga.

Bale left with an apparent injury to his left legs in just the fourth minute.

Modric suffered a knee injury.

The injuries come just four days before the second leg of Real Madrid's Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid.

"It's a bad moment for Bale to get hurt. We will have to see what the tests say tomorrow," Emilio Burtagueno said.

"And Modric also worries us. When we only have four days before the quarterfinal return leg, it's not good news."

Diego Costa is unlikely to return to the Chelsea lineup before the end of April.

Costa has been battling a persistent hamstring injury.

José Mourinho expects Costa to play in Chelsea's final four matches.

"We have eight matches to play," he said. "If he plays four, it's normal. If he plays three, it's a little below what I am expecting. If he plays five it is more than what I am expecting, so I am thinking about four matches."
