Jozy Altidore Again Injures Hamstring, Out 4-5 Weeks

May 20, 2015 12:57 AM

Jozy Altidore will miss the next four to five weeks with a strained right hamstring, which will rule him out for the upcoming friendlies of the United States.

Altidore was injured in the first half of Toronto's 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday.

Altidore, 25, injured his left hamstring while playing in the American's first game in the World Cup last summer and missed the rest of the tournament. He also hurt his left hamstring in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal.

Sacchi: Cristiano Hasn't Been Fit For Past Three Months

May 16, 2015 2:11 PM

Cristiano Ronaldo has not been fully fit through the decisive part of the season, according to former Real Madrid director of football Arrigo Sacchi.

Speaking on Italian outlet Mediaset in the aftermath of that game in quotes reported by AS, the veteran former Milan and Italy coach questioned Ronaldo's fitness, while praising his competitive spirit.

"For three months now Cristiano Ronaldo has not gone past a player," Sacchi said. "He scores goals, as he is a fighter, but he is not fit."

Daniel Sturridge Out Four Months Following Hip Surgery

May 7, 2015 8:09 PM

Daniel Sturridge will miss the start of next season after undergoing hip surgery.

Sturridge had surgery in New York on Tuesday and Liverpool is confident the repair will fix several underlying issues behind his poor fitness record.

It will be four months before the 25-year-old can resume full training and with his pre-season effectively beginning in early September, it could be mid-to-late October before Sturridge is available for Brendan Rodgers’ team again.

The extent of Sturridge’s latest lay-off is unlikely to change the Liverpool manager’s transfer plans.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea striker, who signed a new five-year contract worth up to £140,000-a-week in October, damaged a thigh muscle while training with England in September, tore a calf muscle on his return to full training with Liverpool, suffered a second thigh strain in November and then the hip injury.

Robert Lewandowski Has Good Chance Of Playing In First Leg

May 4, 2015 2:44 PM

Robert Lewandowski is working on returning from a broken jaw, broken nose and concussion suffered in last week's match against Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich said last week they were "profoundly convinced" that Lewandowski would be available for the first leg of their semifinal at Barca on Wednesday, and the striker used his Twitter account on Sunday to say he was "ready for the next challenge."

Lewandowski missed training on Sunday, and Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer has said he will only play at the Camp Nou if he is fully fit.

"The doctors will decide it, along with the player himself and also [how he feels when wearing] the mask, but one thing's for sure -- no player in the world can be so important that you'd put his health at stake," Sammer told reporters after the Leverkusen defeat."

Lewandowski returned to training on Monday.
