Grant Xhaka Out Three Months With Knee Injury

Sep 29, 2021 4:47 PM

Grant Xhaka will be out three months with a knee ligament injury.

Xhaka was withdrawn in the 82nd minute of Arsenal's 3-1 win over Spurs.

The timing is cruel for Arsenal and Xhaka, who was outstanding on an afternoon that was seen as a benchmark for Mikel Arteta’s side.

PSG Downplays Disagreement Between Kylian Mbappe, Neymar

Sep 28, 2021 11:19 AM

Mauricio Pochettino played down an apparent disagreement between Kylian Mbappé and Neymar during the 2-0 home victory over Montpellier on Saturday. After being substituted late on, Mbappé reportedly complained that Neymar does not always pass to him.

“These things happen,” Pochettino said. “There are always things between top players – they are competitors who want to win and help the team achieve good. I have spoken to them today individually and they may have also spoken to each other and there have been photos of them enjoying themselves in training. The target is to win. If there is a small incident sometimes, that can create a wave but it is actually just talk.”

Lionel Messi Healthy For Match Against City

Sep 28, 2021 11:18 AM

Lionel Messi will play for Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League match against Manchester City.

Messi was a doubt for the Group A match due to a bruised knee that has forced him to miss PSG’s past two games.

"Leo is in a very good way. I think he will be in the squad tomorrow but I still haven’t decided on the starting XI,” Mauricio Pochettino said. “We will confirm the starting XI tomorrow.”

N'Golo Kante Tests Positive For COVID-19

Sep 28, 2021 11:16 AM

N'Golo Kante will miss Chelsea's Champions League match on Wednesday against Juventus after testing positive for COVID-19.

It is not known if Kante has received the vaccine.

Thomas Tuchel, who is fully vaccinated, admitted he is unaware of how many Chelsea players have received the jab but refused to call for a mandatory uptake despite an apparent reluctance among many footballers to take it.

"We are only a reflection of society and the players have a free choice if they want to get vaccinated or not," Tuchel said on Tuesday at a news conference.

"I think we should accept it and this is more or less everything I can say. I know the situation is far from over and all the time somebody gets it here from us and from our crew, it make you very aware it is not over. I hope it gets as less as possible but I clearly don't have the solution for it.

"It would be easy to say yes [the players should get the vaccine to set an example] now and get applause from a lot of people but at the same time, do I have the right to say it? I'm not so sure. I can make the decision for myself and everybody else needs to reflect about it, take a risk or not."

Lionel Messi To Undergo Scan On Left Knee

Sep 21, 2021 4:19 PM

Lionel Messi will undergo scans for a left knee injury.

Messi has already been ruled out of Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 match against Metz and is also in doubt for next Tuesday's Champions League tie against Manchester City.

When asked about Messi's situation at a news conference, PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino replied: "The club has already communicated Leo's situation and it's clear.

"We had seen that Messi was touching his knee. I'm very happy with what he did during the match [against Lyon]. After 75 minutes, taking into account the information we had, we made the decision [to bring him off].

"Messi is a great champion, and like all great champions, he didn't want to come off. I'm happy with his commitment and his performance. He hasn't scored yet, but he played very well."

Barcelona Considering Dismissal Of Ronald Koeman

Sep 21, 2021 4:18 PM

Barcelona are beginning to consider replacing Ronald Koeman as manager.

Koeman's position was further weakened by Monday's 1-1 draw at Camp Nou against Granada in LaLiga, which followed last week's 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Jordi Cruyff, who returned to Barca in an advisory capacity this summer, has championed Belgium boss Roberto Martinez, while former midfielder Xavi Hernandez, coaching Al-Sadd in Qatar, is another option.

FC Dallas Fires Luchi Gonzalez As Manager

FC Dallas fired coach Luchi Gonzalez on Sunday and replaced him on an interim basis with Marco Ferruzzi.

Dallas has only won six of its 26 matches this season and has nine draws.

"We made the tough decision to part ways with Luchi after a great deal of thought and deliberation. We believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club at this time to help us achieve our goals,'' FC Dallas President Dan Hunt said in a statement. "I want to thank Luchi for everything he has done for this organization. We wish him all the best.''

FIFA Pushing To Hold World Cup Every Two Years

Sep 20, 2021 11:41 AM

FIFA will push to hold the World Cup every two years and are set to begin a dialogue with soccer clubs, leagues and players' unions this month.

European soccer body UEFA has warned it could boycott if the World Cup moves from its historic four-year cycle, and South American counterpart CONMEBOL is also opposed.

FIFA argues biennial World Cups will give more players and teams the chance to compete in meaningful games, improve talent globally and raise more money to fuel development programs.

Leonardo Expects Kylian Mbappe To Remain With PSG Next Season

Sep 15, 2021 10:17 AM

Leonardo has said he expects Kylian Mbappe to remain with Paris Saint-Germain beyond the current season and denied that the club ever received a final bid from Real Madrid worth €200 million.

"I don't see Mbappe leaving at the end of the season," Leonardo told Canal+ on Tuesday. "The relationship Kylian has with PSG is deep. Nobody is thinking about the future of PSG without Kylian. I can't imagine it."

Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco for €180 million in 2017, beating Real Madrid to sign him.

Mbappe has so far refused to agree to a contract extension with PSG.
