Barcelona To Unload Several Players In January

Sep 30, 2017 9:56 PM

Ernesto Valverde is hoping to restructure Barcelona's roster in January as he has an excess of players.

"There are 24 players in the squad and I am really happy with the players I have," he said in a news conference ahead of Sunday's league game against Las Palmas at Camp Nou.

"When we get to January, though, perhaps we will talk about restructuring. But as far as the squad is concerned, I will admit that I don't like squads to be too big."

Thomas Vermaelen and Arda Turan have not played a single minute in the Champions League or La Liga this season.

"Yes, Spain I think," said Guardiola.

"I would like to be a manager in a World Cup, and the European Cup [European Championship]. I would like to feel that.''

"I am so happy to be here,'' he added. "It really depends on the success we have. Big clubs like Manchester City, if you don't win, you don't stay.''

Sergio Aguero Out 2-4 Weeks With Broken Rib From Car Crash

Sep 30, 2017 11:48 AM

Sergio Aguero has suffered a broken rib in a car crash in Amsterdam.

Aguero was a passenger in a taxi en route to the airport in Amsterdam after attending a concert on Thursday night put on by Maluma, a Colombian singer, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a column on the side of the road.

Aguero is expected to miss two to four weeks.

"Thank you with all my heart for the supportive messages, they really do help me in recovering.

"The taxi I was riding made a wrong turn and crashed against a pole. It was a very heavy slam, but seatbelts prevented it from being worse.

"I'd like to thank the staff of the VU University Medical Amsterdam for their care and support. Hats off to all their team.

"I'm home in Manchester after an exam by club [doctors]. It's a broken rib. Hurts, but I'm fine, fully focused on recovery. Thank you all!"

Premier League Big 6 Seeking Bigger Share Of International TV Money

Sep 28, 2017 1:40 PM

The six richest clubs of the Premier League are seeking a greater share of income from their next round of television deals.

Manchester United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are proposing an end to the system in which international television rights are split equally.

Richard Scudamore presented a proposal where 35 percent of television money is distributed based on where clubs finish in the league.

Income from international TV rights 25 years ago was negligible, so the clubs agreed to share that money equally.

Last season, Chelsea received £151 million in total while bottom-placed Sunderland were paid £93 million, but the booming international income was shared equally, the 20 receiving £39 million apiece.

Serie A Moves Past Bundesliga In UEFA Five-Year Rankings

Sep 28, 2017 11:35 AM

Serie A has moved ahead of the Bundesliga in UEFA's five-year rankings for the first time in seven years.

The Italian league was boosted by wins in the Champions League this week by Roma, Napoli and Juventus.

With Leipzig losing at Besiktas, Borussia Dortmund going down at home to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich being crushed by Paris Saint-Germain, Serie A overtook the Bundesliga on Wednesday night with almost three points more than the Bundesliga in this season's calculations.

The Premier League is the best-performing league in Europe so far this campaign. La Liga remains easily the most dominant league in Europe.

Carlo Ancelotti Fired As Manager Of Bayern Munich

Sep 30, 2017 11:48 AM

Carlo Ancelotti has been fired as manager of Bayern Munich following their 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti was dismissed after meeting with the board on Thursday. Ancelotti won the Bundesliga in his first season with Bayern.

“The performance of our team since the start of the season did not meet the expectations we put on them,” said chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “The game in Paris clearly showed that we had to draw consequences. [Sporting director] Hasan Salihamidzic and I had an open and serious discussion with Carlo today and informed him of our decision. “I would like to thank Carlo for his cooperation and regret what has happened. Carlo is my friend and will remain so, but we had to make a professional decision for the benefit of FC Bayern. I now expect the team to have a positive development and absolute performance, so we can reach our goals for this season.”

Ancelotti’s assistant Willy Sagnol, former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann are among the early favourites to succeed him.
