John Terry Leaving Chelsea At End Of Season

Feb 1, 2016 10:04 AM

John Terry will leave Chelsea at the end of the current season.

Terry will not retire and will pursue a future away from the Premier League.

Terry is 35 and has spent 18 years with Chelsea.

"I was in last week before the Arsenal game, and [my contract] is not going to be extended," Terry said.

"It's my last run in the FA Cup, so I want to make it a good one. It's a big season for me and I want to push on -- not just in this competition but in the Premier League as well. I knew [the situation] before the Arsenal game, so mentally I've kind of accepted it. We just have to move on and climb the league.

"My agent made the call, like we do every January. He got told over the phone and I called to set up a meeting the following day. The club immediately set that up, which was great of them to do. I wanted to hear it face to face."

Barcelona Rules Out Transfer For Nolito

Jan 31, 2016 4:11 PM

Josep Maria Bartomeu has said Barcelona will not sign Celta Vigo star Nolito in the winter window.

Nolito has scored eight goals in 15 La Liga games, but Bartomeu told Cadena Ser radio: "In these past few days there has been so much talk about a player.

"But the club obviously can't -- we have a limitation on our debt, and with that we can't do anything about it."

Nolito has an €18 million release clause.

Jan 30, 2016 3:30 PM

American 17-year-old Christian Pulisic made his professional debut for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Pulisic had scored in a friendly at Union Berlin last Sunday, and manager Thomas Tuchel rewarded him by putting him on for Adrian Ramos in the 68th minute of the Bundesliga clash.

"He has shown the courage from training also in the match today," Tuchel said after the game.

Pulisic, who has played for the United States under-15 and under-17 teams, signed with Dortmund a year ago and was added to first-team training at the beginning of this month.

"I've worked very hard for this day," Pulisic said.

FIFA Suspends Transfer Bans Against Real Madrid, Atletico

Jan 29, 2016 7:42 PM

FIFA has temporarily suspended the transfer bans imposed two weeks ago on Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid while world football's governing body investigates the club appeals regarding the signing of youth players.

Real Madrid's statement read: "Real Madrid would like to communicate that the FIFA appeals committee has decided to temporarily suspend the sanctions imposed on the club."

The Spanish clubs were notified earlier this month by FIFA that they had been banned from registering new players for the next two transfer windows after FIFA ruled that both clubs violated regulations against signing young international players.

Louis Van Gaal Wants To Remain With United Until 2017

Jan 30, 2016 3:41 PM

Louis van Gaal would like to remain as manager of Manchester United through the end of his contract after the 16-17 season.

"I have signed a three-year contract and I have said in all my press conferences that it's a process, not one game," Van Gaal told reporters. "And I want to continue until the end. If I am not willing to do that, I don't think I would have started here one-and-a-half years ago."

United have only taken 10 points from their last 10 league games and have won just three of their last 14 matches in all competitions.

"When I say things to defend myself then it's not good," he said. "Because why do I have to defend myself?

"When you see the circumstances -- we have eight injuries, you cannot say that is the manager's fault because five or six are contact injuries, and it's also the same position, full-back.

"We have been first in the Premier League -- you may remember that -- but that was one-and-a-half months ago and the injuries are now and that is also a problem. If I could prevent injuries then maybe I'm guilty and I have to stand down but not when I don't have that feeling and we were No. 1 in the Premier League."

De Bruyne Could Be Out Through Euro 2016 With Knee, Ankle Injuries

Jan 29, 2016 12:22 PM

Kevin De Bruyne could be out through Euro 2016 after suffering torn ligaments in his knee and ankle in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

De Bruyne, who came on as a late substitute for Yaya Touré in City’s 3-1 win, appeared to catch his studs in the turf and twist his knee as he challenged Ramiro Funes Mori in injury time and was carried off on a stretcher.

Agent Patrick De Koster admitted that De Bruyne will be out for a minimum of six weeks, adding that it is too early to judge whether he would play again this season.

“Kevin will be out for at least six weeks but it is too early to know more at this stage,” De Koster told the Guardian.

“He’s confident. Of course he is a bit sad that he will miss so many important games like the Capital One Cup Final and Champions League but Kevin would not be Kevin if wasn’t already thinking about playing again for City.”

Louis Van Gaal Criticizes 'Awful, Horrible' Resignation Stories

Jan 29, 2016 12:22 PM

Louis van Gaal called coverage of reports he offered to step down as manager of Manchester United "awful and horrible."

United has won just three of their past 14 matches.

"I think I don't have mentioned that [offering to resign] ever," he said in a news conference.

"I think that you make your own stories and then I have to answer on your stories. I am not doing that because I think it is awful and horrible and you can write, and a lot of colleagues have written that, and then I have to answer the questions of their stories. I don't think I have to do it. I don't think the press conference is the moment to talk for that.

"When you make your stories, I am very concerned the people are believing what you are writing and because I receive a lot of calls and messages."

Referring to suggestions he was on the brink of the sack in December, Van Gaal added: "You can write what you want and it is now the third time already that I have been sacked and I am still sitting here for you and I am here because I am obliged to do that.

"When you ask me, of course, I have certain people I like because they put a question a very respectful way but a lot is in a very disrespectful way."
