FIFA Looking To Financially Assist Clubs Affected By COVID-19 Pandemic

Mar 31, 2020 2:18 PM

FIFA released a statement saying they were looking to financially assist clubs hard-hit by a lack of matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FIFA reportedly have a financial reserve of $2.745 billion.

"FIFA is in a strong financial situation and it's our duty to do the utmost to help them in their hour of need," said the organization. "FIFA is working on possibilities to provide assistance to the football community around the world after making a comprehensive assessment of the financial impact this pandemic will have on football."

The organization is also looking to create a program that would provide a financial lifeline for its member clubs.

"The football community around the world is experiencing, to a greater or lesser extent, serious financial problems on account of the coronavirus outbreak," FIFA said. "This threatens to disrupt and impair the ability of FIFA's member associations and other football organizations such as leagues and clubs to develop, finance and run football activities at all levels of the game, including professional, non-professional, youth and grassroots."

Josep Maria Bartomeu: Barcelona Can Make Big Signing This Summer

Mar 31, 2020 2:01 PM

Josep Maria Bartomeu stated that while there will be less money overall in this summer's transfer market, Barcelona are still in a position to be able to sign a big player.

"I can't talk about names, but Barca will be making moves to do the deals we feel necessary," said Bartomeu. "We make more money than any other football club in the world, so of course we have the capacity [to make big signings].

"The club is not in danger. We're different from other clubs that [rely on] ticketing or television rights. We have other sources of income like the football schools, the museum. [So] the lockdown hits us more than others, but we will also be quicker to get back on track."

Barcelona have been linked with Lautaro Martinez and Neymar, though they will reportedly only be able to sign one of the strikers due to a lack of funds.

Bartomeu added that Barcelona were ahead of financial projections when the La Liga season was suspended.

"The predicted revenue for this season was €1 billion and we were flying in February, ahead of predictions. We will continue to be the biggest earning football club. All clubs have a drop in income right now and we are working quickly to act on that."
