Suárez Texts Liverpool Teammates He'll Be Ready For June 19 Match

May 27, 2014 5:38 PM

Luis Suárez has texted his Liverpool teammates that he will be in the Uruguay lineup when they face England in the second Group D game on June 19.

Suárez underwent keyhole surgery on a knee injury he first suffered in Liverpool's final game of the season.

Jordan Henderson is one of the five Liverpool teammates on England's team.

"Everybody is obviously disappointed for Luis, people that know him – maybe not us – because he is a big player for Uruguay," said Henderson.

“I gave him a text to see if he is doing all right and wished him good luck with whatever he has got to have done.

“But I am sure, knowing the type of person he is, he is a fighter and I am sure come maybe the first game or the second game in the World Cup, I am sure he will be ready and raring to go.”

Luis Suárez Undergoes Surgery On Meniscus, World Cup In Doubt

May 23, 2014 12:59 PM

Luis Suárez underwent surgery on Thursday after suffering a meniscus injury on Wednesday.

Uruguay remains confident that Suárez will be healthy in time for the World Cup.

“His participation at the World Cup has not been ruled out," said Uruguay in a press release. "In terms of relevant clinical history, it is worth noting hat he suffered a blow to his left knee during the last game of the Premier League season with Liverpool, which provoked a pain that subsided with rest following the end of the season.”

Recovery times for meniscus repair for footballers range from three to 10 weeks.

Liverpool have yet to be informed about the extent of the striker’s injury but it is standard practice for a national FA to contact the player’s club when he requires surgery.

Diego Costa Travels To Serbia To Receive Horse Placenta Treatments

May 22, 2014 11:37 AM

Diego Costa has reportedly travelled to Serbia to visit a "medical miracle worker" specializing in horse placenta treatments.

Costa is seeking a quick recovering from a hamstring injury in order to play in Atlético Madrid's all-important Champions League Final against Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone said earlier this week that it was "too soon" to rule the Spain star out of the final, and AS and Marca report that Costa headed to Belgrade to visit Marijana Kovacevic in a bid to expedite his recovery.

Kovacevic is said to use electric shocks as well as ointment made of horse placenta. Robin van Persie has received treatments from him in 2009.

Costa is also a key member of Spain's roster for the World Cup.

Vicente Del Bosque warned that Costa would be taking a risk if he played in the Champions League final.

"It is normal that a player wants to be there, because it is not just another game but the European Cup final," he said. "But he cannot go against his own health. His team, Atlético, and the player himself are those who have to weigh up the situation and the consequences."

Costa will go to Chelsea in the summer on a transfer.
