Sam Allardyce Steps Down As Manager Of Crystal Palace

May 24, 2017 11:25 AM

Sam Allardyce has surprisingly stepped down as manager of Crystal Palace.

Allardyce only signed a contract through to 2019 at Selhurst Park just before Christmas.

Allardyce was due a bonus of around £2 million for keeping the club in the Premier League.

“In some ways this has been a very difficult decision to make, but in others it has been a simple one,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday evening. “I will always be grateful to Crystal Palace and Steve Parish for giving me the opportunity to go out with my head held high having helped keep the club in the Premier League. More than that, they gave me a chance of rebuilding my reputation after what happened with England. I felt I needed another shot at being a Premier League manager and Palace gave me the chance of rehabilitation.

“That’s why it’s hard walking away now. I think the club are heading in the right direction with a hugely supportive board of directors, a great squad of players and some of the most passionate fans I’ve ever met. It’s been a privilege to have worked here for the past five months. But there comes a time when you have to take stock of what direction you want your life to take, and that’s been the simple part for me.

“I want to be able to savour life while I’m still relatively young and when I’m still relatively healthy enough to do all the things I want to do, like travel and spend more time with my family and grandchildren without the huge pressure that comes with being a football manager. This is the right time for me. I have no ambitions to take another job. I simply want to be able to enjoy all the things you cannot really enjoy with the 24/7 demands of managing any football club, let alone one in the Premier League.”

"We finished third in La Liga, it was the objective of the club, but we, the players, want more.

Kylian Mbappe Won't Join Club Where He Won't Play Regularly

May 22, 2017 8:21 PM

Kylian Mbappe insists he won't move to a team where he may not feature regularly.

Real Madrid has been linked to Mbappe as his preferred destination, but becoming a regular starter is difficult at the club. James Rodriguez, for example, joined Real Madrid from Monaco in 2014 and is likely to leave this summer after being unable to crack their regular XI.

"I will make a choice based on my sporting career, and my career is first and foremost, and I am at an age where I need to play, and that will be paramount," Mbappe told beIN Sports.

"I'm not 35 or 36, an age where I have to manage [my body], I still have everything to learn, this year was discovery, and now comes the most important step: Confirmation.

"And I will be the sole decision-maker, and I will not go anywhere where I will be forced to go."

Antoine Griezmann Rates United Move Odds At '6'

May 22, 2017 6:08 PM

Antoine Griezmann said his odds of joining Manchester United this summer are six out of 10, though he also rates his odds of staying with Atletico Madrid at seven.

Diego Simeone had announced to the club's fans that "everyone is going to stay."

"It'll depend on Atletico, whether they can sign players, because perhaps they'll have a ban," Griezmann said, adding that Alexandre Lacazette's potential arrival would change nothing.

"I don't think the fact a player comes is going to make me stay or leave."

Griezmann is United's top target this summer.
