David Silva Out 3-4 Weeks With Knee Injury

Nov 1, 2014 2:16 PM

David Silva will miss three to four weeks with a knee ligament injury he suffered in Manchester City's League Cup match against Newcastle.

Silva underwent a scan on Thursday after limping off after just nine minutes of City's 2-0 defeat.

Silva will now miss some crucial games including Sunday's derby against Manchester United as well as the midweek Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow.

"David has a problem in his ligament," the City boss told reporters. "Maybe he will be out around three or four weeks so he will not be available for the derby.

"David is a very important player but we have a squad and we will have to replace him with another player."

Daniel Sturridge Concerned Injuries Could Be Hereditary

Oct 31, 2014 11:09 AM

Daniel Sturridge has said he believes his persistent injury problems could be hereditary as he faces several more weeks out with a calf strain.

Sturridge has not featured for club or country since suffering a thigh injury in England training at the beginning of September.

His uncles, Dean and Simon, were both professional footballers, while his father was a trainee at Birmingham, and he believes his current injury problems could be due to his genes.

"I play my game as best I can, but I've been unfortunate this season," he told talkSPORT. "Maybe it's my body type -- maybe it's hereditary.

"Both my uncles had injuries, and my dad had them as well. Maybe it's the Caribbean vibes, maybe I have speed but maybe it makes you more vulnerable because of the fast twitch muscles and the speed at which you're moving.

"I am vulnerable to muscle injuries. As long as I continue to work hard, everything will take care of itself."

Thiago Alcântara Tears Ligament In Knee Again

Oct 15, 2014 10:11 AM

Thiago Alcântara has torn the ligament in his right knee again.

Thiago first tore a knee ligament in March before suffering a setback in May ahead of the World Cup.

Thiago will undergo surgery for the injury, which happened in training on Tuesday.

"What can I say?" Thiago told Bayern Munich's official website. "Of course, I am at the moment profoundly disappointed and upset. Why always me? But I will not give up. I will fight again. I'm going to get close again. And I will celebrate my comeback at Bayern."

Sporting director Mathias Sammer added: "We are all shocked and saddened by this re-injury.

"After a long time out, Thiago was so close to a comeback. But he knows that the whole of FC Bayern is there for him. We will do everything to ensure that he is healthy again and can bring us a lot of titles."

Arsenal's Injury Issues Continue With Tomas Rosicky

Oct 14, 2014 12:29 PM

Tomas Rosicky has become the latest Arsenal player to suffer an injury while on international duty. The 34-year-old midfielder was hurt in the Czech Republic’s 2-1 win over Turkey in Istanbul last Friday and he was unable to play in his county’s 4-2 away win over Kazakhstan on Monday night.

“I couldn’t do any sharp movements, I couldn’t sprint,” Rosicky said after the match. “If I tried to play at one tempo, I wouldn’t make any difference for the team. I’ll come back to London and we’ll see. The doctor said I have something swollen between the muscles.”

Rosicky has made six appearances for Arsenal this season but only one of them has been as a starter.
