Austin FC announced Monday that Jim Curtin will become the club's next head coach at the conclusion of the 2026 MLS season. Interim manager Davy Arnaud will guide the team through the remainder of the current campaign while the club's search for a new sporting director continues.
Curtin, 46, joins Austin following an 11-season tenure with the Philadelphia Union that produced a 170-90-134 record across all competitions. He won the Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year award twice, in 2020 and 2022, led Philadelphia to the 2020 Supporters' Shield and guided the club to the 2022 MLS Cup final. The Union reached the playoffs seven times under his leadership.
"Jim Curtin is one of the premier coaches in North American soccer, and we are exceptionally proud and incredibly excited that he has chosen Austin FC to continue his impressive journey," said Austin founder, CEO and majority owner Anthony Precourt.
Curtin parted ways with Philadelphia after the 2024 season and had been without a club before agreeing to terms with Austin. He becomes the third permanent head coach in club history, following Josh Wolff and Nico Estevez, who departed in May.
"I had several other opportunities, both within MLS and abroad, but none of them excited me the way this project did," said Curtin. "From our very first conversation, they shared a vision for Austin FC that is bold, ambitious, and built for the long term. Their belief in what this club can become is contagious, and I'm proud to help bring that vision to life."
Curtin will inherit a squad built around designated players Brandon Vazquez and Facundo Torres, club-record signing Myrto Uzuni, veteran goalkeeper Brad Stuver, homegrown midfielder Owen Wolff and Canadian international Jayden Nelson.
Austin currently sit 14th in the Western Conference with 14 points through 15 matches at the FIFA World Cup break.
