Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP on a transfer that could cost up to €80 million ($88 million).

The deal includes an initial €55 million payment with a further €25 million in variables. Of those, €5 million were related to the player's appearances, another €5 million subject to United's achievements and a further €15 million based on individual awards.

"Manchester United are delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes," a United statement read. "The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms."

Barcelona were close to signing Fernandes at one point, but United made a breakthrough in negotiations on Tuesday.
