Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain said it would be impossible for his club to sign Lionel Messi.

City has been linked to a transfer for Messi as he continues to wait to officially sign his extension with Barcelona.

"It's impossible," he said. "[Messi] will stay at Barcelona."

City has had an active summer but still may make more moves before the August 31st deadline.

"We can try to do some movement but now we are very happy," he said.

"If something happens in the last days our job is always to be ready. If we think we can improve the squad, we will do it. As we are now, we are really happy."
