Arsenal and Manchester United are pursuing Jose Fonte of Southampton.

Both United and Arsenal would like to upgrade or add depth to the center-back position.

United would need to sell or loan one of their existing central defenders before bringing in Fonte.

The Gunners have lost Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to long-term injuries.

Fonte would command a fee of around £10 million.
