Tim Howard will retire after his current deal with Everton expires in 2018.

Howard's deal will take him past his 39th birthday, but there is no chance he plays professionally into his forties.

"He is a fit man and at the peak of his powers," Roberto Martinez said when the deal, which runs through the 2017-18 English Premier League season, was announced on April 17. "I know he will play on beyond 40."

Howard has spoken about his interest in moving into a front office role when he retires. He also could provide color commentary.

"I'll be on a beach somewhere when I'm 40," Howard told ESPNFC.com in a phone interview on Friday. "I would pretty much take that to the bank that I won't be playing past 40. There are other things I want to achieve in life, other things that I want to do."

Howard signed a two-year extension last week with Everton and won't return to the MLS for an encore.
