Transfers involving the five major European leagues are up significantly since the 09-10 season.

The 98 "big-five" league teams spent €6.9 billion on signing recruit players present in their 2009-10 squads, equating to an average spend of €70.4 million. That figure rose to €8.6 billion in 2014-15, or €87.7 million per club -- an average increase of 24.5%.

The Premier League in particular saw an increase in spending of 41.1 percent, with fees invested in signings increasing from €2.43 to €3.43 billion between 2009 and 2014 -- around €171 million per club.

The report notes that the Premier League's upcoming £5 billion British TV rights deal for the 2016-19 seasons is likely to see spending in England increase by even greater amounts, while also stating that the "redistributive power of the transfer market is limited."
