Real Madrid have agreed terms to sign defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for €60 million ($69.4 million), according to The Athletic. The transfer is expected to be completed early next week pending final paperwork.

The package includes a €55 million guaranteed fee plus €5 million in potential add-ons. Cucurella, 27, signed a new contract with Chelsea last summer that still had three years remaining.

Multiple clubs had pursued the Spain international after he indicated willingness to leave west London. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona's sporting directors both made contact with his representatives, while incoming Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca also expressed interest.

Should the move be finalized, Cucurella will play under Jose Mourinho, who rejoined Real Madrid earlier this week as head coach. The Spanish club is undergoing a broader overhaul of its backline, with Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate also expected to arrive in Madrid.

Cucurella made 50 appearances for Chelsea during the 2025-26 campaign, his third season at the club. He has totaled 150 appearances since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, helping Chelsea win the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025.

His arrival would create a crowded left-back room at Real Madrid, which already features Alvaro Carreras, Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy. At least one departure from that group is considered likely.

Cucurella is currently with the Spain squad, where they will face Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in group play and are the favorites to win the tournament, according to the latest World Cup odds.
