Tottenham Hotspur are close to finalizing a deal for Scotland captain Andy Robertson following his departure from Liverpool, with an agreement in principle already in place for the 32-year-old left back.

Robertson played his final match for Liverpool against Brentford on Sunday, having previously announced he would leave when his contract expires this summer.

Tottenham first targeted Robertson during the January transfer window under then-manager Thomas Frank. A deal between the two clubs was reached at that stage, but Liverpool withdrew when they were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma.

Robertson brings considerable experience to a Spurs side that secured Premier League survival on the final day of the season by defeating Everton under new manager Roberto de Zerbi. The Scottish international made 378 appearances for Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time at Anfield.

Robertson also holds 92 caps for Scotland and will captain his country at this summer's World Cup.
