Sami Khedira has been linked to an exit from Real Madrid for months, but he said talks are ongoing for a contract extension.

There have been many reports that Khedira could leave during the January transfer window.

During an interview with German sports publication ‘Kicker’, Khedira explained: “My agent is already having conversations with Real Madrid,” regarding an extension to his current contract, which expires at the end of this season.

“Right now I see absolutely no reason to leave the team this winter. Real Madrid is a great place to be and the club is very much in my heart. There’s no reason to to say that I want to, or should leave.”

Khedira has made four substitute appearances in La Liga as he's battled injuries.

“I was out injured for six weeks and after just two training sessions, I was back in the team. That reflects that both the club and the manager are counting on me. When I’m back at 100% I’ll be a candidate for the starting eleven once more. I had a slight muscle discomfort in my thigh, nothing serious, but we didn’t want to risk it. That’s the only reason I wasn’t in the team.”
