Karim Benzema has had no wage increase from his original five-year contract signed with Real Madrid upon his €35 million transfer from Lyon in 2009.

Benzema is seeking an annual raise of €4.5 million to €9 million as they discuss an extension.

Sergio Ramos recently received a raise.

Benzema is known as one of president Florentino Perez’s favourites, even selling Gonzalo Higuain to keep the Frenchman, while manager Carlo Ancelotti feels he’s a perfect complement to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real has been linked to a move for Luis Suárez, which would make Benzema a secondary figure up front.
