Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde denied reports he refused to play right-back during Tuesday's 5-0 Champions League victory over Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan.

The Uruguay international was reported to have declined warming up with substitutes before the match. When asked to prepare during the game, he allegedly stood on the touchline with his arms behind his back in apparent protest.

Real Madrid were without both recognized right-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal through injury. Manager Xabi Alonso started Raul Asencio in the position instead.

Valverde, who has been linked with a January move to Manchester United, took to social media Wednesday to refute the claims. The 27-year-old posted a lengthy statement on X defending his commitment to the club.

"I've read several articles that have been damaging to me," Valverde said. "You can say many things about me, but under no circumstances can you say I refuse to play. I've given everything and more for this club."

"I've played through fractures and injuries, and I've never complained or asked for a break," Valverde added. "I have a good relationship with the coach, which makes me feel confident in being able to tell him what position I like the most on the field, but I always, always let him know that I am available to perform anywhere."

The midfielder emphasized his dedication despite recent struggles. He has started six of Real Madrid's seven league matches this season.

Valverde has made over 300 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions. He has won three LaLiga titles and two Champions League trophies with the club.
