Lionel Messi is waiting on assurances that Barcelona will improve its roster before he signs a new deal with the club.

Messi's current contract ends in June of 2018 and has a release clause of $348 million USD.

Talks have progressed since last fall on a new deal that would pay Messi more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.

But Messi reportedly wants to know Barça's plans for improving the roster this summer and has suggested they acquire fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero from Manchester City.

There is hope a deal could be struck before May 19 when Messi leaves for World Cup training.
