Neymar was offered a tax-free £650,000 ($862,000) per week to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, according to his agent.

Paris Saint-Germain offered Barcelona £160 million ($212 million) to sign Neymar on top of the salary that would have worked out to £33.8 million ($44.8 million) per year after taxes.

Neymar instead signed an extension with Barcelona that runs until 2021.

“He was very close to PSG. He would have earned €40 million a year, free,” Wagner Ribeiro told ESPN Brasil.

“Neymar was also close to a move to Manchester United. But he renewed his contract for less money with Barcelona, because he wanted to stay in Barcelona.”
