The future of Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City could be decided after the club's final match on Sunday against Southampton.

Last season, Pellegrini led City to the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup. This season will end with no trophy, though the club are guaranteed second place after winning their past five matches.

Chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak will attend the match.

Two years ago, Roberto Mancini was sacked by Mubarak when the manager had his review after City’s defeat by Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final. Yet Pellegrini attempted to brush off the significance of the meeting.

“We can sit down to have a conversation because it’s normal, but we are having conversations every week,” he said.

“So it’s not a special conversation at the end of the season. I am always confident because it’s my way of thinking. I signed a contract here for three years. I have one year more.

“I never felt any problem inside the club to finish my contract. I suppose you have important information so we will see who is right at the end of the season.”
