Jurgen Klopp Doesn't Expect Transfer Plans To Change If They Miss UCL

Apr 30, 2021 1:38 PM

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool's summer plans won't be impacted if they miss out on the Champions League next season.

Liverpool are four points out of the top-4.

"The Champions League is massive, especially financially for the club," Klopp told a news conference. "If we cannot make that, that is not good. Definitely not.

"But I don't think it will change anything. The situation was difficult before and it is difficult after. It is always difficult."

United Confident They'll Sign Edinson Cavani To Extension

Apr 30, 2021 1:36 PM

Manchester United are increasingly confident they will sign Edinson Cavani to an extension for another season.

Cavani rediscovered his best form recently and is now leaning towards United after thinking he would leave the club with Boca Juniors interested.

"He was out for a long time before he came here," Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. "He's had injuries, worked hard and showed his quality. He knows I'd love to have him for another year. I understand it's been very difficult for him.

"I've promised him Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place with fans in and I must try to get that feeling that Manchester is a good place to live. I'm doing my best.

"We don't have to sell it to him; it's about how he feels coming in every day, the team we are creating, he's part of it."

Spurs Target Ajax's Erik Ten Hag In Managerial Search

Apr 29, 2021 1:10 PM

Tottenham Hotspur have interest in hiring Erik ten Hag as manager and plan to meet with him once Ajax wraps up the Eredivisie title.

Although nothing is agreed as yet and Spurs have other candidates, including Ralf Rangnick, Ten Hag is understood to be open to listening to their proposal.

Spurs had wanted Julian Nagelsmann to become the permanent successor to José Mourinho, who they sacked last week, only for Bayern to secure him as the successor to Hansi Flick.

Ten Hag is committed to front-foot football and has brought through many young players.

Jesse Marsch Hired As Manager Of RB Leipzig

Apr 29, 2021 1:04 PM

Jesse Marsch has been hired as manager of RB Leipzig effective next season.

Marsch will replace Julian Nagelsmann, who left Leipzig for Bayern Munich.

Marsch was an assistant coach at Leipzig in 2018-19 and will join from sister club Red Bull Salzburg, where he won the Austrian league and Cup double last season.

“Jesse has done outstanding work everywhere he has worked so far,” said Leipzig’s head of football, Oliver Mintzlaff. “He has kept developing and it is obviously an advantage that he has worked at RB Leipzig for a year in the past. Jesse knows the club, the city, but most of all the philosophy of the team and the playing style.”

Bayern Appoint Julian Nagelsmann As Next Manager

Apr 27, 2021 11:44 AM

Bayern Munich have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their next manager and have paid a significant compensation to RB Leipzig, which will break the previous record of €15 million paid by Chelsea to Porto for Andre Villas-Boas.

Nagelsmann is set to replace Hansi Flick, who asked Bayern to release him from his contract two years before its expiry date earlier in the month following a rift with sporting executive Hasan Salihamidzic over the Bundesliga champions' transfer strategy and philosophy.

"FC Bayern have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach," a Bayern statement read. "The Bavarian-born 33-year-old will move to Munich from RB Leipzig on July 1, 2021 ahead of the new season, signing a five-year-contract with the German record champions until June 30, 2026."

Nagelsmann joined Leipzig from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019 and led them to the Champions League semifinal in his first year in charge.

Eric Bailly, Manchester United Agree To Four-Year Extension

Apr 26, 2021 3:22 PM

Manchester United has signed Eric Bailly to a four-year contract extension.

"I'm very happy," Bailly said. "This decision is something I didn't have to think about, I love this club and I love playing for Manchester United. I'm happy and so are my family, everything is good. Now the moment with my injury has passed and I'm fit and feel good, and that's it. A new contract is like a new challenge and I'm ready for this.

"I hope I can be ready and I don't get any injuries and to be strong and finish the season well. I hope to win the Europa League this season. We will have more challenges next season -- hopefully the Champions League -- and, for me, my dream is to win the Premier League, that's my big dream."

Bailly, a £30 million signing from Villarreal in 2016, was due to enter the final year of his contract this summer.
