Wayne Rooney has been recalled by England for next week's friendly match against the United States.

Rooney retired from international soccer in 2017.

Rooney is likely to start among the substitutes but the intention is to bring him on to earn his 120th cap and seek to add to his record 53-goal haul.

Rooney’s career with England spanned almost 14 years and included spells under six managers, making his debut in February 2003, and he captained the side in 23 of his 119 caps.

The match will be used as a fundraiser for Rooney's foundation.
