Manchester City and Manchester United have spent a combined $1.02 billion on their squads, making it the richest Manchester derby ever.

Anthony Martial, Morgan Schneiderlin, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling have helped to increase the costs of the respective squads, leaving Louis van Gaal with a £351 million panel at his disposal and opposite number Manuel Pellegrini choosing among players worth a combined £312.8 million.

Those figures leave out another £115 million in Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Luke Shaw.
