United States forward Christian Pulisic is expected to be available for AC Milan's Serie A match at Genoa on Sunday after returning to full training Wednesday, one week after missing the Rossoneri's 3-2 home loss to Atalanta with a lower back injury. Massimiliano Allegri is expected to have Pulisic available for selection.
The American winger has not scored in his past 17 Serie A matches since Dec. 28, the longest goal-scoring drought of his career. He has also gone scoreless in eight consecutive appearances for the U.S. national team.
Milan's Champions League qualification is in serious jeopardy. The club sits fourth in the table, the final qualifying position, level on points with fifth-place Roma and two above Como. Milan hosts Cagliari in its final match of the season the following week.
The timing is critical for Pulisic with the World Cup approaching. The U.S. opens group stage play against Paraguay on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, before facing Australia in Seattle on June 19 and closing the group stage against Turkiye on June 25 at SoFi Stadium. The Americans play friendlies against Senegal on May 31 and Germany on June 6 in preparation.
