Barcelona midfielder Pedri will be sidelined for approximately one month with a hamstring injury sustained during Wednesday's Champions League victory over Slavia Prague. The 23-year-old was substituted after 61 minutes of the 4-2 win at the Fortuna Arena following the setback.

The club confirmed Thursday that Pedri would miss around four weeks of action due to the hamstring problem. He could miss up to seven matches during that timeframe, including five La Liga contests and critical Champions League and Copa del Rey fixtures.

Pedri felt his hamstring in the second half, dropped to the floor, and placed his hands on his head. He briefly consulted Barcelona's medical staff before leaving the pitch to be replaced by Dani Olmo.

The Spain international is expected to miss league matches against Oviedo, Elche, Mallorca, Girona, and Levante. He will also sit out a Champions League home game against Copenhagen and a Copa del Rey trip to second-division Albacete. Pedri hopes to return for the home league game against Villarreal on March 1.

A key player in Hansi Flick's side, Pedri has made 24 appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing seven assists. He is ranked ninth in La Liga in WhoScored ratings and fourth amongst Barcelona players.

Recurring muscle injuries have plagued Pedri's career. In the three seasons from 2021-22 through 2023-24, the midfielder missed 44 La Liga matches due to unavailability.

He missed just over a month earlier this term due to a hamstring injury sustained in October. Pedri also recovered from a calf issue that forced him out of the victory at Villarreal on December 21.

Barcelona are without Gavi and Andreas Christensen due to long-term injuries, as well as forward Ferran Torres, who sustained a muscle injury during the 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad on January 18. The Catalan club, a point ahead of Real Madrid atop La Liga, face Oviedo on Sunday.
