Diego Simeone has received an eight-match ban for his actions during the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup in which Atlético Madrid won 2-1 on aggregate.

Simeone was suspended for four games for tapping the back of the linesman’s head, two games for protesting, one game for applauding his sending-off, and one game for remaining in the stands instead of leaving the stadium after his sending-off.

The assistant coach, Germán Burgos, will take over from Simeone while he serves his suspension.

Simeone wanted to fight Raphael Varane toward the end of last season's Champions League Final.
