Iker Casillas announced that he will be running to become the president of the Spanish FA.

"Yes, I will run for the presidency of the [RFEF] when the elections are called. Together we will put our federation at the top of the best football in the world. I have informed my club, FC Porto, to whom I can only express my deepest gratitude, of my decision," he announced on Twitter.

The RFEF presidential elections are expected to take place before the Tokyo Olympics.

One of Casillas' goals is to restore peace between the Spanish FA and La Liga. The two organizations have fallen out due to several issues, including playing La Liga matches outside of Spain.
