Mikel Arteta stated that Arsenal needed to compete for major trophies again during his opening press conference as Arsenal manager.

Arteta signed a deal through the 2023 season.

“Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world. We need to be competing for the top trophies in the game and that’s been made very clear to me in my discussions with Stan and Josh Kroenke, and the senior people from the club," said Arteta.

The 38-year-old Arteta played at Arsenal from 2011 to 2016.

Arsenal paid Manchester City $1.1 million to release Arteta from his contract.
