Jurgen Klopp is considering taking a year's sabbatical at the end of his current contract with Liverpool that expires in 2022. The owners of Liverpool are hopeful he will commit to an extension beyond 2022.

Klopp has repeatedly stated his desire to take a break from the "very intense" demands of management when his contract expires.

Liverpool signed Klopp to a six-year contract in June 2016. Klopp said he could imagine being at the club for the remainder of his career.

Liverpool was prepared to offer Klopp an extension after last year's Champions League defeat to Real Madrid had he wanted it. The owners of Liverpool believe the scale of Klopp's influence cannot be solely measured by trophies.
