Manchester United has parted ways with Mason Greenwood after bringing him back to the club last week. Both manager Erik ten Hag and football director John Murtough supported Greenwood's return.

Greenwood has been suspended from training and matches since his initial arrest nearly 18 months ago.

Last October, Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Greenwood denied all the charges and they were dropped in February, with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) saying that “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”

Some staff members were questioning the decision to bring back Greenwood.

Greenwood said: “Today’s decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me. The best decision for us all, is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club.
