Chelsea has agreed to activate Timo Werner's £49 million ($62 million) release clause with RB Leipzig.

Werner is on the brink of accepting a five-year contract with Chelsea worth £200,000 a week.

Liverpool have long been considered front-runners for Werner's signature given persistent rumours of contact between the two clubs and his admiration for Jurgen Klopp.

Werner's deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days, which gives Liverpool and Manchester United one last chance to enter negotiations. Chelsea can offer Werner more game time than Liverpool given the presence of Radio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
