Liverpool will begin work on a $77 million expansion of Anfield, with plans to complete the project by the summer of 2022.

“Our plan is to go into a planning process in March through April and expect a planning determination in late summer. Assuming that goes to plan we would be able to commence the build towards the end of this year and take us through to completion in the summer of 2022," said Liverpool CEO Andy Hughes.

The plan will add 5200 general admission seats to the stadium, taking the total capacity up to 61,000.

Liverpool will keep the stand open during construction to avoid any loss of match-day revenue.
