Luis Enrique has returned to his post as manager of Spain, five months after stepping down. Enrique's daughter was seriously ill with bone cancer and has subsequently passed away.

Robert Moreno took over as manager in June and had run the side in Enrique's name.

It is the fifth managerial spell for Spain since June 2018, all under president Luis Rubiales.

“Today we can confirm that Luis Enrique will return to his position,” said Rubiales at a press conference on Tuesday morning. “We have acted sincerely, we have not deceived anyone. Everyone knew that if Luis Enrique wanted to come back he had the doors open.” Rubiales further stated: “Luis Enrique will continue to the Qatar World Cup.”
