North America has been granted the 2026 World Cup, beating out Morocco.

The joint bid from the United States, Mexico and Canada received 134 votes compared to 65 for Morocco.

The Fifa hierarchy, including the president, Gianni Infantino, preferred the North American bid which has promised to generate around an $11 billion (£8.24 billion) profit for Fifa compared to the projected $5.7 billion (£4.48 billion) a Morocco World Cup would raise.

The United States last host the World Cup in 1994.
