Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are approximately £20 million apart in their valuations of Toby Alderweireld.

United hoped to sign Alderweireld away from Spurs before the start of the World Cup.

Sources have told ESPN FC that United are willing to pay around £50 million for Alderweireld, but negotiations have hit a sticking point with Tottenham valuing the 29-year-old at closer to £70 million.

Alderweireld has two years left on his existing deal worth around £50,000-a-week, which also includes a clause allowing him to leave for £25 million next summer if he has still not reached an agreement with Spurs.
