Aston Villa has appointed Roberto Di Matteo as their manager on a two-year deal.

Villa were relegated from the Premier League last season after finishing bottom on the back of just three wins.

Villa also had three managers during the season beginning with Tim Sherwood before Remi Garde succeeded him. Garde left before the end of the season and Eric Black served as caretaker.

Di Matteo has been out of work since leaving Schalke at the end of last season. Prior to that he won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012.
