Sinisa Mihajlovic is set to be appointed as the new coach of AC Milan after Filippo Inzaghi was fired on Thursday.

The former Inter Milan midfielder, who was also assistant to Roberto Mancini at the Nerazzurri until 2008, is a free agent after announcing his departure from Sampdoria on Monday.

Carlo Ancelotti turned down Milan's offer on Tuesday.

Mihajlovic secured Europa League football for Sampdoria thanks to a seventh-placed Serie A finish this season -- and his side picked up 56 points, four more than Milan managed under Inzaghi.
