West Brom Hires Slaven Bilic As Manager

Jun 13, 2019 11:20 AM

West Bromwich Albion has hired Slaven Bilic as manager on a two-year deal.

West Brom is attempting to return to the Premier League.

“I’m delighted with this opportunity of course,” said Bilic, whose last job was with the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. “We want to improve on the pitch and Albion have convinced me they want to return to the Premier League. Albion have a short-term project and a long project and they do not clash. They made it clear they wanted me to be the one to lead them in this and I didn’t think twice once they had spoken to me.”

West Brom Fires Darren Moore As Manager

Mar 10, 2019 8:47 AM

Darren Moore has been fired as manager of West Brom.

West Brom have won just four of their past 12 matches, but are fourth in the Championship and should qualify for the playoffs.

The chief executive, Mark Jenkins, told the club’s website: “This has been an enormously difficult decision for a club which will always hold Darren in such high regard. He took over at a very difficult time last season and reunited the club, a contribution that will never be forgotten.

“But we have made it clear from the outset that everything this season was geared to making as swift a return to the Premier League as possible. Unfortunately Darren has not been able to engineer the consistency of form and results to convince the board that this objective would be met."

Alan Pardew Hired By West Brom As Manager

Nov 29, 2017 9:39 AM

Alan Pardew has been hired as West Bromwich Albion manager until 2020.

Pardew had been out of work since he was fired by Crystal Palace last December.

Pardew replaces Tony Pulis.

“I’m thrilled with the opportunity Albion have provided and looking forward to getting to work with what I consider to be a talented group of players,” Pardew told the club’s website.

“The immediate challenge will be to get the results we need to pull ourselves up the table. But I’m aware that while I’m joining one of the great, traditional clubs of English football, it is one determined to go forward in the Premier League. It’s an exciting opportunity to play a part in that ambition.”

West Brom Fries Tony Pulis As Manager

Nov 20, 2017 10:25 AM

West Brom has fired Tony Pulis as manager with Gary Megson replacing him on an interim basis.

The club is one place and one point above the relegation zone.

“These decisions are never taken lightly but always in the interests of the club,” said the chairman, John Williams, in a statement on Monday. “We are in a results business and over the back end of last season and this season to date, ours have been very disappointing. We would like to place on record our appreciation of Tony’s contribution and hard work during a period of transition for the club which included a change of ownership. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Pulis was hired by West Brom in January of 2015.

United Rejects West Brom's $16M Bid For Morgan Schneiderlin

Dec 30, 2016 1:55 PM

Manchester United has rejected West Bromwich Albion's £13 million ($16 million) offer for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Last week Tony Pulis confirmed West Brom made a bid for Schneiderlin.

“We have not received one single offer that we are going to accept," said Jose Mourinho.

“I don’t want to sell players. The club and the board is totally with me, but as I told before, if a player is not having lots of minutes and really wants to leave, we have no right to stop him leaving if the conditions are our conditions.”

Morgan Schneiderlin Asks To Leave Manchester United

Dec 23, 2016 12:22 PM

Morgan Schneiderlin has asked to leave Manchester United, with West Bromwich Albion leading the race to sign the midfielder after lodging a £13 million bid.

Schneiderlin, a £24 million signing from Southampton in July 2015, has failed to start a Premier League game for United this season.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is also keen to sign Schneiderlin, having worked with him at Southampton.

"He is a great professional, a fantastic boy, very honest and open," Mourinho said. "He opened his heart to me a couple of times and my answer is simple.

"If he was playing regularly with me, I have the right to say no way. But if he is not playing, I have no right to say you are going nowhere.

"My answer was that, if the offer is right and the board thinks it's a good offer in relation to quality of a very good player like Morgan, I wouldn't stop him going."

EPL Clubs Spend Record $1.55 Billion On Transfers During Summer

Sep 1, 2016 1:29 PM

Premier League clubs spent a record £1.165 billion ($1.55 billion) during the 2016 summer transfer window.

Thirteen clubs broke their own transfer records as they continue to benefit from a £5.1 billion television deal.

"The increases in broadcast revenue, with the 2016-17 season being the first of the new broadcast deal cycle, is the principal driver of this spending power," said Dan Jones, a partner at financial analyst Deloitte.

The average gross spend for a Premier League club in the 2016 summer window was about £60 million.

Paul Pogba was the most expensive player of the window as he was bought by Manchester United for £89 million. United and Manchester City each spent more than £150 million in the window.
