Marcus Thuram Fined Wages For Spitting On Player

Dec 20, 2020 6:01 PM

Borussia Monchengladbach fined Marcus Thuram one month of wages for spitting on Hoffenheim's Stefan Posch.

Thuram, who received a red card, will likely also face a match ban from the German Football Association.

"Marcus is devastated and has assured me that he did not purposely spit at Stefan Posch. He told me that during a dispute with Stefan Posch, he had unintentionally spat after cursing several times in French in the heat of the moment.

"He knows that this does not change anything and that the pictures speak for themselves, and that the sending off was the right call. I believe Marcus because I have come to know him as a reflective person with a great demeanour," said sporting director Max Eberl.

Thuram apologized to Posch on Twitter.

Joachim Low: Bundesliga Is 'The Leader In Europe'

May 30, 2020 11:06 PM

Joachim Low discussed the Bundesliga's quality since the league's return behind closed doors.

"You also have to get used to a bit of football without the excitement that the fans provide. On the other hand, I am positively surprised by the high level of motivation from the players and teams, the attitude and also the way of playing," said Low.

Low added that he believes that the Bundesliga is the top league in Europe.

"You can tell that the players want to compete again, to battle, to score goals, to avoid [conceding] goals.

"This has also had a positive effect for me, that the players came out of such a long break so motivated and look as if they are playing in a stadium with 80,000 spectators," added Low.

Bundesliga Likely To Complete 2020 Season Without Fans

Mar 31, 2020 1:51 PM

The Bundesliga will likely finish this current season without supporters in the stadium, according to CEO Christian Seifert.

"Professional football can only function when we play," said Seifert. "When the time comes, we will be ready and prepared and we are looking forward to it.

"If we can play games, it is to be expected that they will be without fans for some time. Maybe even into the new season or until the end of the year."

Seifert added that the league will not return until April 30th at the earliest.

The CEO also said that the plan is to finish the season by June 30th, taking players to the end of their current contract.

Bundesliga Executive: Survival Of League Is At Stake Due To Stoppage

Mar 16, 2020 3:26 PM

The existence of the Bundesliga is at stake due to the league's suspension, said chief executive Christian Seifert.

The top two German leagues are canceled through April 2nd.

Over 56,000 people work in the German football industry.

"Tens of thousands of jobs are at stake. We've reached a point where Bundesliga has to admit: 'Yes, we are manufacturing a product and if we no longer manufacture it then we cease to exist.' It's not only about the stars. More is at stake than just a few matches," said Seifert.

The executive also asked clubs to analyze worse case scenarios of the league being shutdown through March in order to "assess who can survive for how long."

Seifert added that there is no timetable for when matches will resume.

"Nobody knows when games can take place again."

Sandro Wagner Likely To Be Sold To Bayern

Nov 16, 2017 10:49 AM

Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelmann has confirmed a report that Germany international Sandro Wagner is closing in on a return to Bayern Munich.

Wagner made his Bundesliga debut with Bayern in 2007.

"It's right, and we've known that for longer than yesterday," Nagelsmann told a news conference ahead of his side's match against Frankfurt.

"We are aware of his interest [in a move]. We will make an announcement if there's something to announce.

"There are no grudges that he's interested, but there is sympathy. It's not my player, he belongs to the club. If the clubs reach an agreement, you try to compensate for things as a coach."
