The LA Galaxy have signed Douglas Costa.

Costa, 31, had been on loan at boyhood club Gremio from Italian giants Juventus, but, after relegation to Serie B last month, the Brazilian side is facing a significant cut to its finances.

LA Galaxy II Sign 16-Year-Old Miguel Avalos

Mar 20, 2021 1:17 PM

16-year-old Miguel Avalos has signed with the LA Galaxy II of the USL.

Avalos was originally signed by Pachuca in 2018, though he was not allowed to play due to FIFA rules prohibiting players under 18 to move to another country for soccer purposes.

"It's very exciting, because I was in Pachuca for about a year and unfortunately, I wasn't able to play because of the FIFA rule. So, moving out here to LA, it's amazing being able to play, and I'm excited to play this season," Avalos told ESPN.

Avalos is a dual national who would represent either Mexico or the U.S.

LA Galaxy Fires Guillermo Barros Schelotto

Oct 29, 2020 7:29 PM

LA Galaxy has fired Guillermo Barros Schelotto as manager.

The former Boca Juniors coach was hired in January 2019 and guided the club to the semifinals of the Western Conference last season, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic netting 31 goals during the campaign.

"Based on results, we have decided to go in a different direction," Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese said in a statement. "The LA Galaxy is a club that is built on winning on the field and being representative of the championship mentality and pedigree that you expect in Los Angeles. As a club, we have a collective responsibility and we all must share the blame for the club's current standing. I take responsibility for the poor results and believe that we can find the right way forward for this team and our club."

Galaxy Release Aleksandar Katai Following Racists Posts From Wife

Jun 5, 2020 3:20 PM

The LA Galaxy have released Aleksandar Katai following racist social media posts from his wife Tea.

In a one-sentence news release, the team said that it had "mutually agreed to part ways" with Katai. Katai joined the Galaxy from the Chicago Fire before the start of the season.

The Galaxy reached a financial agreement with Katai and do not have any further financial obligations to the player.

The Instagram posts made by Tea Katai late on Tuesday, which have since been taken down, mocked protests related to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week. One post showed a police SUV attempting to drive through protestors in New York. A caption in Serbian read, "Kill the s---s!" while a second post showed a picture of an individual carrying boxes of Nikes with the caption "Black Nikes Matter."

LA Galaxy To Meet With Aleksandar Katai Over 'Racist' Posts From Wife

Jun 4, 2020 12:57 PM

The LA Galaxy will meet with Aleksandar Katai to discuss a series of social media posts by his wife.

Tea Katai made the since-deleted posts on her Instagram story this week, the Galaxy confirmed Wednesday in a statement that called the posts "racist and violent."

Tea Katai's posts included a profane call, written in Serbian, and threats against protesters.

"The LA Galaxy strongly condemned the social posts and requested their immediate removal," the statement continued. "The LA Galaxy stands firmly against racism of any kind, including that which suggests violence or seeks to demean the efforts of those in pursuit of racial equality. The LA Galaxy stand with communities of color, and especially the Black community, in the protests and fight against systemic racism, social inequality, bigotry and violence."

Katai disavowed his wife’s posts in a statement on his own Instagram account Wednesday night.

“These views are not ones that I share and are not tolerated in my family,” he wrote. “I strongly condemn white supremacy, racism and violence towards people of color. Black lives matter. This is a mistake from my family and I take full responsibility. I will ensure that my family and I take the necessary actions to learn, understand, listen and support the black community.

“I understand that it will take time to earn back the support of the people of Los Angeles. I am committed to putting in the necessary work to learn from these mistakes and be a better ally and advocate for equality going forward. I am sorry for the pain these posts have caused the LA Galaxy family and all allies in the fight against racism.”

Gareth Bale Interested In Someday Playing In MLS

May 1, 2020 12:15 PM

Gareth Bale said he would "definitely be interested" in playing in the MLS in the future.

Real Madrid nearly agreed to a deal for Bale to play in China before talks broke down. Bale's contract runs until 2022.

"I really like the league," Bale told The Hat-Trick podcast. "It's grown so much over the years. When we come over and play now in pre-season, the games are difficult. The standard is a lot better. All the clubs are improving, the facilities are improving, the stadiums are improving.

"It's a league that's on the up and still rising, and I think a lot more players want to come over to America now to play. I'd definitely be interested in it. I love going to Los Angeles on holiday."
